Again, 'herm' is not the same thing as throwing a late 'nanner'. Semantics maybe? Every grower has seen a plant with true intersex traits - pollen sacks growing out of female flowers or hanging down low on the plant. In a rare case maybe you'd take pollen from that single random pollen sack down low and make a cross with it knowing that the progeny may also grow singular random pollen sacks, usually located down low. Those crosses are gambles and
only worth the effort if the female is
killer. That happens sometimes. Absolutely killer females with that one flaw. IMO, it's worth the gamble for the advanced, attentive gardener.
Two examples of crosses I've made using nanners to cross stellar keepers in my garden. Odds are they're not to everyone's tastes but my patients constantly request these.
