That's the surface and a common image, ancient wisdom too. To under go the kind of change of perspective that will really let you experience the power of the practice and gain many of it's benefits I would recommend 8 weeks of formal practice twice a day and mindfulness exercises through out the day while performing simple tasks. It's works the same way as training your body and getting into shape, because it is your body and you need to also pay close attention to it in your training. Ya know it's an exercise, cause it's as hard to stick to as exercise and even though ya feel good after practice and during it, it's hard to get yer arse on the cushion sometimes.
More ancient wisdom, "You must first climb the mountain to enjoy the view, there are many paths to the top".
Here is a quote from me, an original from yer gentle master.
"Much of what passes through our minds is like that which passes through our arseholes, not particularly useful and sometimes downright harmful" I like to keep it real, no navel gazing around here. Look upon me, yer gentle master, as one of them thar gurus the billionaires tow around with em sometimes, ya got yer very own guru Rob, yer rich beyond imagining!
We'll get around to dunking ya in the river later...
