I've said before that only two things scare me. To be old and poor and a woman with a gun. Yesterday I took steps that might make one of those fears come true. But let me start at the beginning.
In 1971 or there about my aunt sold 40 acres {minus the river} without letting anyone in the family know it. {the river ran through the land on the diagonal, so over 1/4 mile of riverfront on both sides} The 23 acres on our side of the river was sold to a retired Air Force Col. while everything across the river got cut up into lots. The Col. and his wife came to be good family friends. They both died in the last 15 years or so and their daughter has been living there since. Her husband died a couple of years ago, then Micheal wrecked this house, as well as her place on Lake Seminole. {she bought a tiny home and is living on the beach at Carrabelle}
She couldn't get anyone to cut the dozen or so trees on the house. It was about 6 months before that was done and it got tarped. She's 72 and not getting around as good as she was. As hard as it is to find trustworthy workmen, she figured she would never be able to live there again. A few months back she ask Sister if we wanted to buy the place for 60K. We said yes, but she wanted to think on it some more. We didn't want to rush her, so haven't been pestering her. But someone called her about a right of way, {there is 2 acres behind us that I'm going to try to buy} and made an offer of 85K. She said we needed to at least match that. We settled on 85.5K with 1.5K more for contents. Wrote the check and signed papers yesterday.
