all 5 seeds are started now. i had to give them a bit of help by removing their helmets. fucked up and pulled one out in the process. reset it and hoping i didn’t cause damage. looks good so far. been misting the soil 2x per day. dropped the target humidity to 70%. will drop that to 68% tomorrow. the 5th seed i germinated later has caught up quick..

Yesterday’s mishap doesn’t seem to have affected the seedling. All 5 seem to be doing well enough. Dropped rh to 69% and will continue to do that slowly. Temps are hanging around 78F and maxing out at 82F.


Question: Should I drop the lights a few inches? The Mars Hydro sp250 is currently hanging 29” above the seedlings. The guide I think said anywhere between 24-30.

I'm no pro but my opinion is no. Its a little too easy as a beginner to want to blast your plants with light. @Airwalker16 might be able to help though. I think he is growing with some mars hydro's

You can bring down but definitely dim 25% ever 6"

Thanks @Airwalker16 I know that you can dim this light by removing the driver and adjusting wattage...unfortunately i don’t have a watt meter. For now I’ll just run it full power and keep it towards the upper ends of their suggested distance.

You'd want to dim it to the very lowest 25% setting if you were to lower it to 6-12" above.

I was gone for a day noticed one of the seedlings’ leaves were curling down. the paper cups were very dry; there was a little gap between the soil and the wall of the cup. these paper cups dry out much quicker than the plastic. also determined that i was keeping the tent too warm at this early stage as temps were getting as high as 82.

so i watered them and adjusted the inkbird a bit. i set the target temp to 73. inline fan will now kick on at 76 as opposed to 82. temps should stay between 70-76.

Honestly, at the young seedling stage, 80°F is better for them. Hell, that's what you want all the time when using LEDs. Leaf surface temp needs to be higher since there's no infrared being emitted like with HPS,MH, and CMH.

ah, ok. i guess i will bump it back up. it got up to 84 at one point in the past 24 hrs. i will just adjust the inkbird to keep it from getting to that point and to stay between 78-81 or so.

that curling on the leaf, do you think that is just because i let the cups get too dry? maybe i am just overthinking everything and should smoke a bowl and relax?

Leaves and branches can physically move. They follow the light, droop when asleep. Dont let that stuff worry you. Worry about discolorations and mutations. But yes, the leaves start to get droopy and soft when they're drying out bad. When it's this small. It's important to really limit the water it gets so the roots search for it and branch out like crazy. I say don't even let it go to the point where it comes out of the bottom. Until it's a few inches high with 4 or 5 nodes at least.

The leaves do not seem to be a totally uniform color, though. They seem a bit lighter on the edges. Not sure why. They’re in black gold seedling mix and pH’d water to 6.5. Im probably just overthinking again. Time to smoke.

Oh and I am seeing roots through the bottom of the cups...

I wouldn't be too worried about the discoloration, if it persists or gets worse then you may have an issue with lockout but just give them a few days I'm sure they'll be fine.

Up until a couple days ago, I was using the broad spectrum liquid pH tester that came with the bottles of pH +/-. I only started using the pen to test pH very recently. Perhaps the water I was using was not ideal? Anyway, it is now and I will keep an eye on it.

Good on the roots. that's progress. looks like its coming right out the hole. Get it back in there so it spirals around the bottom. Also, duct tape around the clear cup. Light isn't gonna be good for those roots that will eventually hit the sides.

Ya, I think duct tape would work... Just make sure it's dark. Maybe just use 2 layers to be safe. Haha.
