Steve Mnuchin Urges Americans To Live Dangerously And Travel The Country

Mnuchin claims it's “a great time for people to explore America” as CDC warns against travel: "This is a great time for people to explore America," he said. "A lot of people haven't seen many parts of America. I wish I could get back on the road soon."
Nothing like a rich guy telling us to go explore the country, while 30 million are unemployed. Not sure if he understands we all don't have hundreds of millions from foreclosing on people. Nice to see he is so out of touch, or perhaps it is Trump's donors that are hotel owners want us to travel. Hmmm, could it be the rich understand, we created their wealth and without us, they have very little.

It's hard to reconcile his chipper "explore the USA" mantra with last weekend's protocol for funerals --- graveside service only, masks, limited number of attendees, mourners spread out 6-8 feet apart. When you attend a couple of those funerals over the weekend, and then the next Monday the treasury secretary urges us to "explore the country", there really seems to be a bizarre disconnect between frontline workers and the current administration

Inhumanly Trump and his wealthy buddies are screaming to get people back to work to protect their fortunes while sitting at home in quarantine themselves, just goes to show you that they don't make or earn their own money, the working folks earn it for them.

A tale of two states: Alabama and Oregon.

Part 1, social distancing measures. Alabama is relaxing social distancing measures by a large margin. Oregon will relax some measures but Oregonians aren't planning to open up much without additional measures in place. The model projects through August the results.

The next post compares projected death rates over time for both states

Part 2: projections for Covid19 infections and deaths, Alabama and Oregon. Note that the population size is about the same between the two states.

Alabama

Oregon

Total deaths
2,308 COVID-19 deaths; 471 deaths per million people (4.9 million population of Alabama)
projected by August 4, 2020

Total deaths
193 COVID-19 deaths; 46 deaths per million people (4.2 million population of Oregon)
projected by August 4, 2020

According to this model -- one that the CDC uses to evaluate distancing measures and one written by epidemic modeling professionals --

Lockdowns work. Also Alabama is fucked.

Coronavirus cases, deaths projected to rise as Georgia reopens

Now that Georgia is reopening, teams of experts are calculating whether the rate at which people will sicken or die from the novel coronavirus will rise in the coming weeks, and whether we’ll need more hospital beds to care for them.

The news is generally bleak. Revised projections show that unless people act as if they remain on lockdown, infections and deaths by COVID-19 are bound to rise. The only disagreement among experts is by how much and when.

Even a small bump in how much Georgians move about their communities could cause the state’s death toll to tick upwards. A new projection by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, a model favored by the White House, assumes many Georgians will stay at home and summer heat will suppress the virus. Still, IHME revised its cumulative death toll figures upwards to nearly 5,000 by August, an increase of more than 140% percent.

» COMPLETE COVERAGE: Coronavirus in Georgia

Other models show that if Georgians return closer to their pre-pandemic ways, the state could experience a devastating, exponential spike of infection similar to those in hard-hit areas such as New York City. One created through a collaboration between Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Georgia Tech and Boston Medical Center projects that if restrictions end, cumulative deaths will most likely creep up through July, then skyrocket well beyond 10,000 the next month if residents stop sheltering in place after May 25.

It would appear that compliance with the existing stay at home order was low among the Koolaid drinkers, based on the number of new cases.

Alabama Sees 2nd Highest Spike Ever In New Coronavirus Cases
Alabama reported 335 new coronavirus cases Tuesday, the second highest single day total ever for new cases.

MONTGOMERY, AL — While the governor's "safer-at-home" order remains in effect in place of the month-long stay-at-home order, Alabama saw its second highest increase in new coronavirus cases ever Tuesday.

The Alabama Department of Public Health reports that 335 new cases of the virus were confirmed May 5, which is just 4 cases shy of the highest daily total ever (339 on April 9).

Total, Alabama has 8.581 confirmed cases of the virus as of Wednesday afternoon. The state has also confirmed 340 deaths from the virus, an increase of 27 fatalities in 24 hours. The state has administered more than 109,000 tests and 1,158 patients have been hospitalized.

tldr.

The first word was adequate. Sorry that your cult of death is being rejected. Actually not sorry. Lockdowns work. So does widespread testing, contact tracing and isolation of active cases. There is no need for millions to die, just a need for us to rationally deal with the science behind this virus. The model you presented showing a massive increase in new cases assumes an unintelligent relaxation of lockdowns. It represents failure, not anything to be desired except by Republican death cults.
if you did the above, you would then know the truth.

i think we are going to find out lockdowns work in about 2 more weeks.

i still don't understand how some of these non-believers are still comparing the death rate to the seasonal flu. i've seen everything from 1% to almost 20% mortality depending on the location.
@abandonconflict

I'm not here to argue. But after GA opening and people coming from out of state the numbers are raising. I am banging my fucking head up against the wall waiting to work again.. I've had enough of these 15890061731751013263396902231222.jpg stay the fuck home and be safe.
