GSC I can't figure out if she is ready

Hi,

Nirvana GSC
7 weeks and 3 days since flip
Flower time by nirvana is 7-9 weeks

She don't have a lot brown pistils, but some amber is starting to shown
There are some buds with less amber some with more, mostly on sugar leaves.

I think she is but I am afraid to be wrong.

Thanks

Wow really?

I read every where to harvest when I have 10% amber trichomes.
Can you explain why so I can learn?
I prefer to get the combined effect

I stopped feeding the GSC already 10 days ago.
Just fed her again now after your comment.

Thanks

I wouldn't even start checking trichomes until most pistils are brown and the buds swell. When you do, ignore the trichomes on the leaves and check the trichomes on the calyx, the actual bud. I think you have several weeks to go.
I don't know this strain will have brown poistils (I read on some journals that not always)

So to trichomes on sugar leaves are not counted?
I am confused...

thanks

Some of the pistils look to already be changing color on your plant so I'd expect the rest to follow. That being said, even if they don't change color you will see them begin to retract and curl up as your buds approach ripeness. As this is happening the buds will swell, and visibly get thicker. After 80% have changed color they continue to gain density for a week or two, putting on a good bit of weight even though they will look much the same size. This is when you begin checking trichomes.

Trichomes on sugar leaves mature much faster than those on the buds, so yes, you ignore them completely when checking.

This is a great tip, didn't know that!
If so, I'm afraid I chopped another grow (not in this tent) too early.. I saw many many amber but mostly on sugar leafs...
But it was grow in high heat conditions and it was 9.5 weeks so I hope it will be fine.

Waiting with this tent and I will ask again with better photos in 10 days.

Thanks for this important info.

Is that mean she is ready or should I wait more?
Its only my second time grow, and probably the first one I chopped too early (as I understand now)
Well 1 don’t just take my word. I’m still new as well.
2 Decide what type of weed you want. GSC is indica I believe so I would let it get a little more amber. That’s my preference.

listen to everyone’s opinion and make your decision.

I'm no expert but I would still give it another week or two. You're maybe at the very very start of the harvest window, it's good but waiting another week or two she'll fatten up and increase in potency still. Nice looking plant, try to be patient imo!

Thanks, I don't understand how the flower is not ready but I have so many amber?
I do see that it can be more fatten, but isn't everything will be amber and will give heavy body high?

Really the only way to know is to have experience with the strain and experiment. Its very subjective. You could even harvest a few branches soon then wait to harvest the rest and and compare to see what you or your clients prefer. then next time you'll know for sure. That's the point in the learning process I'm currently at.

First and foremost, its personal preference. Second, a better picture would be more insightful. A way of getting that picture is by really getting that scope into the bud itself.
Something like this...

The issue with taking pictures of the leaves and leafs protruding from the bud is that they're going to mature a LOT fast that the ones on the bud itself. Now if you jam that scope deep into the bud itself, you can really get a better picture of what's going on; kinda like a thermometer in the center of a roast. This is when *I* like to harvest. A majority are that milky plastic color, a handful of amber, and a handful of clear. Now at this point, I can let her go for another week and she'll just put on more trics, but the cost differential vs output I don't feel is worth it, nor do my clientele. Some guys here will call me crazy and say I need to wait AT LEAST 2 weeks before I even consider harvesting her; others say that the amount of amber on the plant is pushing dangerously close to "spoiled". Again, this is what I as well as my clientele prefers, so this is when I harvest it. But good job on the GSC, she looks tasty!
