Again , i may be wrong but i think the term "loam" describes the texture of the soil. not the soil itself. In other words it dont have to be loamy to be called soil. clay is soil too....

At this point you are literally saying if i add N to coco then its not inert anymore. You guys have done cited it being loaded with marcos and micros. I dont see how your calling that inert but hey , im just a soil guy , im not up to you hydro guys yet. :mrgreen:

I don't think you actually know what soil is.

If you fee like really "getting into the weeds" on it, I'd suggest you read the College textbook my professor required 20-some years ago: https://www.amazon.com/Soil-Science-Management-Edward-Plaster/dp/0840024320

The commonality you will see in all of these references is that soil consists of rock mineral particulates, water, air, organic matter, and micro organisms. Again, if you strip soil of it's organic matter it is no longer soil. As I told you before it becomes sand, silt, clay, or a combination of the three, but without organic matter it is certainly not soil.

By the way, I doubt that you grow in soil (unless you are an outdoor grower), more likely you grow in a potting mix, which is very much akin to actual soil in terms of plant growth habits..

Loam is a soil that has even mixtures of sand, silt, and clay particulates, plus organic matter. Loam soils are idea because they have both excellent drainage, and also great nutrient holding capabilities.

Coco is not inert by no means unless you wash and sterlize it....which some companies do.
Have you ever even read the label on your block of coco or are you just still referencing RIU members having success with it as a hydro medium.?

Yeah I reuse my coco over and over. Why buy new when you don't have to?

you already learned when you figured out that you cant grow plants in plain coco or peat and plain water - that's really all you need to know

the rest of what youz guyz are talking about are definitions of words :cool: so i guess thats what you're learning now? :lol:


im a re-user of coco too - surprising how many ppl don't re-use
