Well, maybe we are becoming desensitized, that's one possibility. It does seem like more of a sea change than resignation. This therad started as a troll for the gun toting " 'muh rats" and 'murrica, USA! crowd. It got their attention. In the past, they always popped off whenever negative comments about gunz and gun violence were brought up. But this time, crickets from them. This is the second mass shooting in a week and this is the only post I’ve seen mentioning it.
It looks like people are becoming more and more insensitive to these things. Scary.
Another alternative is that we are passing the tipping point and the opposition to reforming our idiotic gun laws is wearing thin. Gun owners aren't even close to a majority, only about 33% of households have a gun. They've got by for a long time with grace from non-gun owning families. Also heavy propaganda from the gun lobby. With each wave of reporting about gun violence, their message becomes more and more clearly a lie. Not saying this is the reason. Just voicing an alternative. Maybe we are changing as a society.

The other gun lobby
They are, sadly, growing in number: Americans devastated by gun violence. The connections they've forged are strong. But can they defeat the NRA?

In terms of spending power, the NRA and the pro gun lobby are being outspent by those for sensible gun laws.
