Speaking of rainbow trout . . .
This Thanksgiving, Canadian one in early October, I made a trip out to BC from my home in northern Alberta to visit family and the day after I got to Chilliwack we left for our family cabin about 50 miles west of Lillooet. We started building it almost 60 years ago when I was about 9 and it got an upgrade about 6 years ago.
Anyway my oldest little sister caught the longest trout on a damn gang troll about 50 years ago and bugged me about it ever since. 18.5" but a spawner that was very skinny and not very tasty.
This trip up tho I nailed a 21" fat male on a little spinner with a single barbless hook on my noodle rod loaded with 6lb line off the neighbours dock. Finally beat her but she up and died in March of 2020 so all I could do is raise it to the sky and yell "I finally beat your ass!" Very tasty too.
My grandfather's old flyrod below the fish that I always take up with me to get a trout for the man that got me hooked on fishing when I was barely out of diapers. Now I'm at that age where I might have to start wearing them again.
I did get a small, maybe 9", trout on it using a fly I tied 30 years ago. A Royal Coachman wet.
Pic of the cabin from the dock. My 94yo mom headed for the back door.
From the back of the cabin facing north. That whole back section was added on during the rebuild. Plumbing installed but not connected yet.
West end of lake from our dock.
Was great to get back up there after 17 years.
