I could use some suggestions/opinions on driver configuration with some qb96 boards (or just "54v" boards) if anyone is able to help out.
I'm trying help modify or improve a space for someone in the near future:
A 4x6 (24sq ft) area, currently there are twelve qb96 over the area, and they're being driven by two hlg-320h-54ab; so there's six qb96 per driver (for fixtures, three boards each). But the 640ish Watts is under powered at around 27-30w/sq ft.
I was thinking to add a third driver of the same model, and run four qb96 per driver. The qb96s are currently in three-board fixtures. I suppose there's no easy way to do this without totally re-doing the fixtures, OR at least redoing the wiring, which if done in place (fuckin' impossible) would have ugly/messy dangling wires.
I can't really "redo" the fixtures, that'd require all new frame material/aluminum in order to span the 6ft width, instead of the 4ft width like they currently do.
I wish I had a couple 480H-54ab drivers.

Well just off the top, your watts are producing more par than my watts because you're probably talking about your diablo boards, no? At least talking qb288 form factor, right?I just pulled 608.4 grams of bud from 400 watts in a 4x4. 25 watts sq/ft. Plants had no training of any kind, no defol. Fed only megacrop @525 ppms start to finish. I see no reason that 640 watts in a 4x6 can't do eve better with good training technique.

They are getting burped every other day and rearranged in jar . Figure I will sample around next week or so.
Cali weather has been around 58 RH and mid 60s - so it kind of worked out in drying. Plus the mesh rack .

I control the lighting by PPF measurement too, pop. I'm not measuring lighting by wattage. I'm using a meter, seeing that the par is way lower than I need/want, and because the drivers in use are maxed out (power/wattage) - then the only option is to increase the wattage... surely that's pretty obvious (now that I elaborated, hah).I get what your saying. I try to control my lighting by PPF measurement. I got a cheap PAR meter and adjust my lights by that, keeping the top of the canopy at 800-1000 PPF. I think that had some bearing on my outcome, more so than what lights I run. Yes, I'm running Diablos. Measuring lighting by wattage I feel is problematic and is variable depending on the form factor, efficiency, and design of the lamp.
I've not personally run the QB96. Replacing the drivers seems to me to be the simplest, though not the least expensive way, a pair of the 480H would likely give you the results your looking for without having to rewire.
Do you mean "connecting the lights to the driver/power supply"? What driver(s) you using, and for how many qb96's? Are you talking about the "basic" hookup/wiring of the boards to a driver that's part of a diy fixture, or are you trying to run a longer length to be able to remotely mount the driver some distance from the actual fixture/boards?Hey QB Heads,

18awg should do for up to 10feet of length, too long and voltage drop becomes a concern.
If this is the wire you intend to actually make connections into the qb96 push connectors, then I wouldn't use stranded wire. I'd use solid wire instead. Like 18awg NTE solid core, or Shaxxon brand. But the 2-wire ("ribbon") variety in your link example can be convenient as well (again, solid is a better choice for terminating at the actual boards. Stranded will likely be fussy.)
