A few points of clarity and honesty for our community…
HLG and GML in 2021
(GML) demanded 10% ownership of HLG, Steve and I were not comfortable with that. At about the same time, we became aware that GML sent samples of HLG lamps to China to have them reverse engineered so that he could develop his own brand. This created a situation where continuing our relationship with GML being our Canadian distributor was no longer possible. We wish the best in his pursuit of developing his own brand.
Is HLG being sold?
The short answer is NO.
Steve and I love what we have built at HLG and we are excited about new products that are currently being developed.
We are one of the last remaining North American manufacturers of LED lamps for horticulture, so we get approached regularly by different types of investors.
There is no way to predict the future, but currently there are no plans to sell any portion of HLG. Steve and I stand committed to continuing to build our brand and pushing LED technology forward for the entire horticulture community.
We invite any of our customers and supporters to visit us at our manufacturing facility in Tennessee at any time. We love to share with everyone what we do and how we do it.
Is 3.2 mmol/joule real?
Yes. Independent tests confirm that HLG lamps have been tested and certified at this efficiency.
That said, there are variables involved in testing (test methods, testing equipment, driver performance. LED tolerances as per manufacturer, etc…), so there will always be some variation in product performance, but independent 3rd party testing is the best way to compare products from different manufacturers.
HLG has never and will never produce a lamp for test purposes only. All lamps sent by HLG for testing and certification are produced 100% with our standard components with our standard processes. Any contrary suggestion is malicious and slanderous.
We will not participate in juvenile mud slinging, but we will defend our brand.
Do any manufacturers use only the highest flux bin LEDs available?
YES! HLG uses only the highest available flux bins on our QB 288 and QB 648 modules.
Even smaller lamps like HLG 100 and HLG 65 are transitioning to highest available flux bins and we do not plan to stock anything other than highest flux bins.
