2022 Massachusetts Outdoor Growers

My new issue this season, being a deck grow, pertains to dastardly little SOB chipmunks digging in my pots. Funny they never touched the 45 gallon pots last year. Rodents be advised… Victory shall be mine! Lol

This was a crazy year for chippers in my area as well. They dug up all my bean and zucchini seedlings in my grow bags. I put out covered traps but, the little sparrows and wrens were curious enough to go inside . I always try to look at the positive in things. I had a target rich environment so I dropped a piece of plywood and dumped sunflower seeds on it. The greedy little fookers would climb over their buddies' bodies to get seeds even with the pop of the pellet gun going off.

I keep everything in my yard buckled down and have never had problems with skunks, possums, or raccoons, so live and let live. Rodents on the other hand just plain suck. They get into everything and chew, dig and destroy almost everything on a property.

I really have no misgivings about popping them with a BB gun if it comes to that (I got a visual of Pa Kettle sitt’n in his deck chair, like shoot’n fish in a barrel lol), but if I ain’t sitting waiting on them, they’re pretty smart about making themselves scarce when I get out there and they’re fast as shit too! Lol Given they’re only 10 gallon pots this season, the water cup idea, I think would be a bit intrusive to watering effectively. Moth balls cuz of their obvious toxicity are out… I think I’m going to go with the “bed of nails” (wood meat skewers $.99/100) embedded in the soil with some cayenne pepper as a repellent topping and see how that goes. The cats in the ‘hood look at my under deck as a target rich environment, so there’s some of that too. I really don’t care about them otherwise anyway… just stay the hell out my pots!

all you need for chipmunk eradication well and alittle peanut butter lol. If your worried about any pets or birds put it in a shoebox

So I cut the Grape. There wasn't much so I filled a bug ball jar, about 3 liters, and about 8 0z of peroxide. Hope this would take care of the mild rot, and the little black bugs I found. I did do a rinse, but wasn't happy, the peroxide wash when I dunked the bud, the solution seemed to roll right off the flower like a seals fur. Didn't get soggy at all. I did a second peroxide rinse, but didn't rinse it per some advice. Never seen these little black bugs before, but here's some pics
Also, here's my drying room, temp and humidity goes from 39-50, and 70°F<ish>

That sounds like a lot of peroxide for that amount of water… hope you got the desired results, though I’d never heard of a bud rot solution. I thought the peroxide only helped with bug and PM cleansing. Those little black bugs are weird. Oh, I saw my first caterpillar yesterday. He now swims with the fishes… and spraying has commenced! Dry room temps/humidity, I might be stating the obvious but you generally want to be as close to 60/60 as you can, but live with what we can if your not hanging in a controlled environment but you should be fine imo… love the creative hanging choices btw!

That sounds like a lot of peroxide for that amount of water… hope you got the desired results, though I’d never heard of a bud rot solution. 6-8 0zs is only like 3-4 shot glasses of h202. If you're thinking of a 12 oz beer thats way different, I'm not sure why. You can see the shot glass I used in the pic. Has oz marks and others. So three of those in that big jar isn't that much. I hung the bud there to drip dry, then went on a hanger in the closet. I actually shoot for 45-50rh, and 70°F when drying.

6-8 0zs is only like 3-4 shot glasses of h202. If you're thinking of a 12 oz beer thats way different, I'm not sure why. You can see the shot glass I used in the pic. Has oz marks and others. So three of those in that big jar isn't that much. I hung the bud there to drip dry, then went on a hanger in the closet. I actually shoot for 45-50rh, and 70°F when drying.

The reason I say that, us because 60/60 is unattainable in my house without spending money to more control my environment. There's so many different ways to 'cure' these days. Water, ice, steam, dehydrators, list goes on. I bet if you'd have told the old hippies back in the day about all the variations, they'd look at you as if you had three heads.

I get it and agree whole heartedly. I’m going to use my 5x5 indoor grow tent this year likely with a humidifier, but I’ve lived with a similar environment pretty much since day 1 of my own growing. It is what it is… I ain’t complaining with my own past results that’s for sure!

Here's a couple pics, don't know what happened, but plants look like they've grown 6" in a couple days. Most well over 6', some over 7' and still reaching. Gonna be a jungle out there.

That’s exactly what I was doing too to be honest. I went down to Ocean State and picked up a brass hose nozzle ($5) that doesn’t leak at all…now I just leave the water spicket on and just use it when I need it. It was a pain in the arse taking that walk back to the spicket after dying in this dang humidity during water/feeding… even early morning so I feel ya!
