The History of Northern Lights

I have no dog in that fight. I don’t know Matt or Todd, I just know what I’ve listened to. Nspecta from csi has an hour long podcast with riot talking about it. What I do know is that the NL2 and NL5 from Authentic genetics is legit. I grew up in the northwest and we had NL and blueberry in abundance in the ‘80s and ‘90s. What I have grown from AG seeds is exactly what I remember from those days. It grows the same and smells the same

I have recently ordered NL2, Skunk#1 and the purest indica from AG. I assumed it was all legit. Hope Im not disappointed.

I love how everyone keeps finding northern lights seeds that have been in the fridge for 40 years !
This one almost got lost in the shuffle, I wholeheartedly agree and as you know I'm a dinosaur. After I received the package from Gypsy Nirvana with the Sensi Northern Lights seeds, I took all of my old seeds from Florida (they were totally and completely unlabeled, I didn't give a shit I just dumped them all into a big ole baggie, wrapped it in aluminum foil, and put it down the basement. Several years later, after a couple of grows of Northern lights, it got me thinking of the old seeds. I looked where I put them, and rats and/or mice chewed through the aluminum foil and ate every one of the fucking seeds.

That's how I know I have pure 100% Sensi Northern Lights from 2000. ;)

But even my highly skeptical ass believes Shanti.

I know I've said in other threads I would only buy Northern Lights from the retired guy up in Canada, but I always forget about Shanti and Sensi. If they shipped directly to the US and I didn't have to worry about customs, I would order from them directly in a heartbeat.

Sensi doesn't ship directly to the US soil, I've already tried, and begging doesn't help either :(

I think some here in the US claim they sell Sensi's stuff, the skeptic in me highly doubts it.

Gypsy Nirvana's pack to me in 2000 was sealed and pristine. If I was starting everything all over again now, since the CA guy retired, I'd find some way to get a similar seed pack from Sensi or Shanti's Ortega and then work it, but probably not for more than 20 years.

Hi All

the industry of Cannabis has many different characters in it. Some people like to make money, some people like to make new strains , others see a free ride on the back of popular generic names, and so on...it embraces all types and all creeds. Whether a person`s motivation is correct or not is really subjective and based on their goals.
After the hype of the last few years of mainstream media and governmental advice to curb health issues we can all see that the actual facts come out later not during the time of issue! This is the same in most industries with most characters. The Cannabis seed industry has been able to bs most growers and continues to since it takes at least 3 to 6 months for new name strains to be tested by growers giving companies time to catch up to working correctly or else maintain a so called strain standard. There has been no controls on seed companies and their marketing ploys and this remains till today. Generic names are copied without the same original genetics been used, and so forth...so when people wish to seemingly be the first to initiate a new strain the copies will depend upon how well the strain is received. But it is basically a cowboy industry at the foundation of it, which is the reason many so called big companies perpetuate this scenario due to marketing, branding and money. But if these so called seed companies that exist for some decades are based on lies and inferior work just to cater for winning money, then all those companies that believe or buy into this hype are continuing this and reinforcing this bs foundation. It has gone on so long that most forgot they were based on bs and start to believe the hype others offer them for the thanks of supplying seeds at low prices.
While there are exceptionally talented people in this industry also, most money companies ride on their backs and profit greater than the originators. These are facts, not opinion!
As an independently and privately owned seed breeder owning several companies in this industry , and a friend to most companies due to supply accords...well I see most things quickly. I prefer to exist as a less popular seedbank but still in control of all facets of my origins and production within this industry. I really do not trust many to do a lot of the real searching of genetics as in recent times all we see on the market are kush and skunk polyhybrids without most knowing much except how to spray macho liquid and make female seeds of something in mode! Many companies do not even hold males anymore...so while our industry has developed and become legal(which is a wonderful accomplishment), the controls and regulations for Cannabis seed companies really are slim pickings and have not developed within our industry, but from medical patients demands! I do believe CBD crew was the first project that many seed companies joined together in, to share genetics and really achieve the goal of no bs strain description...but all science. So there is proof it can occur, but it is special events not daily events at present. I hope this changes one day.

Anyway enough of my rant...was just sharing a point of view as someone deeply inside this arena.

All the best Shantibaba"

I have to go back from the start of this thread and reread everything. I'm slowly learning more about the names mentioned here, more than I thought I would, there is a lot of history here, and some not mentioned. I did not know Shanti was part of Greenhouse Seeds Co for example and that the White Widow was originally his.

No thats sacred seeds if its skunk 1 meant to be or sam the skunkman depends who u ask i guess skunks from cali originally and nl is from the pnw as is big bud and hashplant
Fuck, this is really going to sound like a soap opera but that's mainly because it is. Sam the skunk man, Dave Watson, is commonly given credit for the development of all skunk. Others disagree, I wasn't there so I don't know, and quite frankly could give a shit. I'm familiar with the Uncle Fester story as well, think that's more believable, but that's just my opinion

Have no idea if the thread is still there on mrnice.nl but for the longest time Neville was positive that Dave Watson narc'd him out, and yes I've read Mr McCormick's exculpatory account of Ray Cogo, and believe it. But it still doesn't change the fact that everything about his online personna indicates he is a certified asshole, if you spend any time on IC mag you'd understand what I mean. But, he's also responsible for one of the biggest and best research links on cannabis that's currently on the internet:

Cannabis Research

I know nothing about the Arjan guy except for seeing his documentary on Netflix, again another certified asshole who claims he's the king of cannabis, OMFG. Regardless of all his flaws, addictions, and disagreements with people I respect, there is no other king of cannabis, and can _be_ no other king of cannabis, other than Neville.

NLSG and Shanti are cut from the same cloth, humble, respectful of others, feel like cannabis developers should be a brother and sisterhood. Shanti doesn't put marketing and sales at the top of his phone reminders when he wakes up.

I think Ben Dronkers of Sensi was a damn good guy as well, don't know and could give a shit about the rest of them, they don't have anything to do with Northern Lights.

And I can't guarantee it but I believe the nym who posted this original article is strongly affiliated with AD, if not Mr McCormick himself, so it kind of reeks of marketing to me.

I learned all I need to know when Mr McMillan's old personal website now links directly to a PayPal account.

My experience with both of them, buying "retail" for the first time up in Vancouver, from connections to Vic High at the Blunt Bros coffee shop in 98-99. I could actually judge what was good versus what smelled and or looked good, because my wife and I had been relatively straight for three or four weeks before our trip, a very rare occurrence related to the cost of taking a cruise:

"A couple of streets down, I go into a basement area of a building, ask "What do you have for sale?" and the guy uncovers a display area with different kinds of buds and hash. Holy fucking moly! I'll take some Skunk, a couple of grams of hash and what was my second choice from Jock, Northern Lights. After we get onboard, my wife and I completely agree, the Skunk smells better but the Northern Lights _is_ better. In fact, it’s even better than the hash."

My only issue with ag seeds is that less than a year ago they were selling f2 seeds. Now they are full on ibl. I really hope they didn't just rush this just to get it to market.
It takes at least three to four generations before you can homogenize and standardize _any_ cannabis variety that is disparate.

This guy doesn't have enough experience actually _developing_ cannabis, he's a celebrity pollenchucker trying to make money off of the names of people who actually created and _worked_ the plant, even Watson actually worked the plant, and I detest him. Mr. McCormick has the online support of many people that I profoundly respect... but just because you're connected with someone doesn't give you the respect they have _earned _.

Just look at his history, he may be an OK writer but actual cannabis development experience? Where is it other than with Peter McWilliams when he got busted 30 or 40 years ago?
