Oh yeah. Remember, i’m from there too. I was just talking when bank fishing for the salmon up here. Flossing. 2 oz is the most you’ll ever cast. The feather, Sac and american.
Striper and sturgeon fishing in the delta i’ll usually be using a penn type reel from boat or a big spinning reel/surf pole from the bank to huck that big ass pyramid weight out there. Would be too much for a lower profile casting reel i would imagine.
Flossing?! :(. No dentists allowed!!

What we call a style of fishing around here.
a cannon ball weight onto a small snap swivel as a slider down to a swivel. Attached to the swivel is the leader line with a bead, or two or three and a hook.
The fish swims up river with mouth open, we are flossing their teeth lol. You feel that and swing and hook set in the mouth

Idk what it's called but for worm fishing i used a pencil lead or a bouncing betty.

I then got introduced to plastacine, it's brilliant!
You can -/+ as much as needed to get the right speed for any given stream or glide.

When you get snagged more often than not it'll pull away.
I like the canonballs so you can feel the weight ticking on the bottom. But that’s when salmon fishing. Casting out way further than spots we fish for steelhead.
I like slinky weights for steelhead

I've pulled it off on bass equipment yea. Not catching a sturgeon but many stripers and tossing a 16 oz weight is a challenge but doable.

I've got a extra heavy one piece lamiglass rod paired with a Daiwa Saltist reel that I can sling a 10 oz rig a pretty good distance but I don't know if I'd be comfortable slinging 16. Seems like bad things happen with the more weight you try to throw.

The regs here are now 6’ max leader length. Almost no different than having a corky above the hook. Steelhead go for the beads. Squaw fish too. Whats to say a salmon doesn’t.
You’re really limited how you can nail them from the banks around here. It’s that or throwing spinners.
On a boat i bounce roe. Back bounce kwikfish or my favorite is on the pick with kwikfish. Or down lower trolling with spinner or plug

Bottom bouncing can be legit. But sitting there in a shallow stream with a marshmellow is lame. We bounce here too. In big water 20ft+ and heavy currents. We fish beads, under a float. The trout chew too

I finally used my new curado. It cast like a dream. Almost forgot what it felt like to cast a nice fresh brand new lubed up reel. Lol
Have to send in my calcutta te DC and my chronarch for service. I have a really old citica that I've stripped parts off for Frankenstein river fixes. I should send that one in as well. Love the fact shimano is just a stone's throw away, and I can go drop off/pick up my reels in person. The guys/gals there are solid and always wanting to help you out.

Been a while, but at the start of every salmon season i usually take apart my reels and clean everything. Grease the gears and oil the bearings.
When casting my 301’s from the bank, with no brakes on, i have to keep the bearings oiled.
Do you oil the bearings?

doesn’t matter when i put those reels on the boat rods but when you’re trying to cast a mile it really does.
