Ventilation concerns in enclosed space

Hi all,

I live in a rather small apartment where I struggle to find a safe and well-conditioned space for my growing tent. Now I'm considering whether I should put the tent into my closet. This room, which is closed by a door, is roughly 4 x 4 feet, has basically no ventilation except for 2 small-bore holes high up one wall and recently had a minor issue with mildew. My idea is to keep the door open all day long, closing it only when someone visits. The room opens into my kitchen and living room, which are very well-aired.

I plan on using a SJ DP 90 for my entire growth (already bought it). The tent will be ventilated by a 185 m3/h (~2000 sq.f) axial fan.

Now, my question is if anyone can make an educated guess about whether my plants will suffocate and die if I put them into this hole.

Thanks in advance.

That tent is a bigger concern. With the pots, light etc you are going to be very limited by height.

Yeah, of course but I don't deem that a problem. I've been growing compact plants for more than a year now (in a Minigrow One) and I'm pretty sure I got it figured out. In that tent and with a better light (I ordered a Migro Aray 2) I will be able to do some good mainlining and true scrogs and of course I choose suitable strains.

Thanks for pointing out nonetheless!

no they wont suffocate i dont have any fresh air intake and my door stays closed so i can control humidity in the room. but if you have the room do you really need the tent? if you are not doing plants in several stages at once like mpther tent, veg tent and a flower tent like i do using the whole room would be much easier imo.

Interesting idea, but the door is not 100% light-proof and even if I could fix that I'd be concerned about the smell.

Hmm. I find it kinda hard to believe that this should be no problem whatsoever. Do you supply Co2?
no because air exchange happens even when the doors are closed. its incredibly hard to seal a room to prevent that from happening. i am guessing you will not see any problems relating to co2 if you just use the room with the door closed.

as for light proofing its as easy as hanging a lightproof fabric inside the door and if you keep your carbon filter and fan close to your door there will not be any smell escaping but you also need a bigger fan and carbon filter so that it scrubs the air in the room multiple times in a minute. but your area is small so thats easy to achieve.

Without air exchange the temps and humidity in there would be out of control very quickly
yeah i run a dehum and ac but as i understand op doesnt want to utilize the whole space maybe looking for just 2 plants or something so i think if he hangs a lightproof fabric inside the door frame and leave the door open as long as no company it may work.

I'd be concerned about the smell.
In an apartment, how do you control smell? I'd think at some point in grow cycle, you'd smell it half way down the hall, wouldn't you? I too am very concerned about smell, and I don't even grow. I just smoke flower, and i've also been trying to decarb and make extract with no odor, and I live in a house on a 10000 foot lot, and I still freak out about smell.

Just sayin...
A 4x4 closet will need some sort of ventilation

I don't live in an American apartment building and fortunately don't have any direct neighbours down the hall or the likes but there is another flat above me. However, the flat is really small and if I did my setup in the closet without any filtering (which I could not do without the tent because there is no real venting in the closet) everything would just smell like pot 24/7 once the ladies get mature. Which might turn out unhandy if I get an unexpected visitor.

On a side note, I stopped actually igniting the stuff some good time ago and I found that a vaporizer is far more easy on the lingering scent.

Anyway, I guess I'm just gonna go and try it. I'll start a grow journal once my light has arrived, trying to give some insights into my experience in compact stealth-growing for people with little space.

Great to hear. I can't wait to follow your journal, bookmarking you now.
I'm really curous to see how your stealth grow goes, because I want to also stop
burning for reasons of privacy and the cannabis stigma. I'm trying to learn how
to decarb and make tinctures, to eliminate smells and easier on lungs.

Wow, i just checked, you're a noob. Welcome to RIU. I only joined back in Sept. and
i hope you love it as much as I do. :peace:

Nothing more then 4 or less plants at a time just for me :) i think about the mars hydro or something good for a smaller tent im more worried about smell
I have had a single dank plant in my old 2x2 in the basement overwhelm an entire 4 bedroom cape in as little as a couple hours. All it takes is a controller failure.
If you are worried about smell, double down and get one filter/fan combo to scrub the air in the tent, and a second on a controller for exhaust.

That’s really good advice may i also add that he may want smaller fans like 4 inchers on speed controls turned as low as possible to prevent too much incoming air and have a better scrub.

Im currently vegging in a 2x2 aswell, filter is outside the tent to maximize tent space, so i push air through the filter.

Its a 6 in fan though so a bit of overkill even turned down.

Id also say that having a bigger filter diameter that the fan is good practice, all you need is a reducer from the hardware store.

Hi,
Don't mean to hijack this thread but I'm currently growing my first autoflower in the minigrow one. Any advice you like to share?

He's not been on here for a year.
But if you click his name then you should be able to click start conversation. Then he might receive an email notification.

If you don't see that option stick around until you are no longer a new member and it should become available..

That space is too small.. Good luck
I would recommend you get a small cheap tent and transfer whatever you can from the box into it.
