Shiiiiit. 17 or 20lb CXX leaderline here. I’ll rock 30lb when i got quiikfish down there. You’ll still usually see me have at least 30lb power pro mainline on the spool :-D
Fish blind round there?!
30# for salmon ya... Or trolling on the boat but 17lb fluro leaders at max! At least 7-8ft.
Drifting for bows in the spring you need some light line (leaders) 6lb is decent but 4 will get you more hookups.

River fishing for trout I'm almost always using 4 lb test, trilene. The rivers get clear as hell here and heavy line just spooks em, plus the lighter line drifts so much better with light jigs and floats. Gotta keep that drag set loose and wear em out

Hm there is no season for them round these parts.... Protected species. But let's say (theoretically of coarse) I did happen to fish for them I would just use my muskie gear 80# braid straight to the hook no leader. Or 40-60# big game mono leader. IF of coarse I did :blsmoke: :fire:
The main problem with just braid to the hook, besides a few other rigging problems, is that sturgeon will roll and their scutes will straight sever the leader.

I like 6lb. If i’m trolling i’ll use 10lb mainline(easier to hold in the clips) and 6lb leader for trout and kokanee

I am not a freshwater fisherman, but 80lb braid would be fine for a 200+ lb bluefin.
What kind of protected species you planning on dragging in with that gear?

Ok ok. For brook trout i’ll go with 4lb too on a ultra light :-D
And desabla and etc etc but dont tell anyone else
I used a little bobber in the river so I could adjust the depth of the drift and get it into places I couldn't really cast to well. Sounds crazy and the in-laws used to give me crap abut it, but I would out fish them most of the time. We always used "hellgrammites" we collected from under the rocks. They were actually salmon fly larva.

I’m just saying though. If i’m targeting something like @tree beard showed, i won’t be rocking 4lb.
6lb minimum here :-)

Youd be surprised. Ive had pike cut 80# mono leaders like scissors. Braid slices easier than mono or floro imo. #’s is #’s. Ive had bass break 20lb like nothing. Smallest imperfections in line, add rocks etc.

I caught a 8 lb cat in Paradise lake when I was trout fishing with 4 lb test, that was fun. We used to sneak down there from my dad's place and hide from the patrol boat.
