Oregon homeless camp bill

What are you doing to help homeless people? You are very passionate about this sort of thing so I'm curious what actions you take.
What actions are you taking? I vote for compassionate candidates who are willing to address the issue. However, homelessness is not that big an issue where I live for now, because rents are still relatively low in my area. It is not necessary for individuals to act, it is the responsibility of the government we pay taxes to, unless people vote for idiot assholes like republicans, or conservatives. It is not the burden of induvials, or of churches, it is the responsibility of the richest country in the world with the poorest citizens in the world.

What do you have against taxing the wealthy at the same rate working people are? The problem is wealth inequality, homelessness is just one of the symptoms of a distorted economic system skewed to the ultra-wealthy. Republicans con fear driven racist morons while serving the rich and screwing those stupid and mean enough to vote for them. There were not many homeless before Reagan and with each successive tax cut or break for the wealthy the homeless problem grew in lock step. A lot of America's and the world's problems can be laid at the feet of the republicans, they make changing the basic global economic system impossible because they are owned by the rich and con morons.

We need to address THE SAFETY AND EFFICACY OF SHELTERS.

You ever wonder why people choose to live on the streets, when in most cases there are available shelters and services for those people? --because they feel safer on the street. How fucked up is that??!?

WE NEED TO ADDRESS THE SHELTER SITUATION.

Are there any pro-urban camping arguments?

I think its passing the buck and does not help the situation. I would also argue that the camps have quite a few negatives for the people living in them and the communities they set up in. That tends to be poor and middle class areas, wealthy people can call the cops and fund any number of reasons to give them a boot.

A big aspect worth noting is that the issue looks different depending on where you live. It's a major issue here, I believe it is the top one for our mayoral race. Also worth noting is that the group or people being talked about has a different makeup depending on where you live. The junkies stealing shit, and living in tents, is what gets talked about in my area as the homeless problem, not those put out becausd of economics. The conversation hits a wall because the two sides are talking about different groups quite often.

Most people are one or two pay checks from homelessness FFS, so being an arrogant uncaring asshole, is kind of counterproductive. Easier for some people to kick down than to look up at what little is trickling down onto them, until AI replaces their comfortable lives with homelessness. Then perhaps they will realize that getting the brown people wasn't that important after all, when they are sleeping in a tent themselves.

If Kevin's house fucks up on the debt ceiling and the US defaults, there could be many people joining the ranks of the homeless, while republicans blame the democrats and offer tax cuts for the rich as the only solution. But crashing the economy won't be important for 30% of Americans who vote republican no matter what, the fact that the brown people are taking over and woke shit are far more important. Besides, the homeless can't vote because they don't have voter ID and no address, means no driver's license and no voter ID, I mean living in the local park means you can't vote either.

Homelessness is not a local problem with local solutions, it is a systemic problem of a national scale, with national solutions. It is even an international issue as the American economic sickness grew, sure the stock market was doing good, but it was increasingly disconnected from main street America.

Go to the shelter, and have the walls swabbed and analyzed. Clean.

Now, to be fair of course.. go to every tent that is in town on public property, and test the inside of the walls. 9/10 will be contaminated with meth, opiates, fentynal... In other words, they're all toxic, and need to be removed by guys with bio hazard suits.

There is your assessment, unfortunately.

Give us some data to back this statement up. You seem like such a compassionate person.
Are you one or two paychecks away from homelessness yourself?

I checked my local new and found no reports of unsafe conditions in local shelters. Do you have a link to share that explains your post?

That is your unfounded assessment. (low value source)

Just because YOUR area doesn't have "reports" doesn't mean there aren't any known incidents there.

This isn't MY area either, but I'm almost certain this article rings true for most cities in the US.

I'm all for letting people setup tents anywhere that is public and being left alone. The problem, is this seems like some kind of nefarious social experiment or something, designed to create some new tent enforcement task force branch of the government, that will only serve to take away more of our privacy.

slow your roll, I simply was explaining why I was asking. But now that you pointed it out, your post was a sweeping statement that inferred ALL shelters are unsafe. I'm glad you agree that this is not true.

I'm never a few paychecks away from anything, because I don't work for paychecks, lol.
Yeah, you're all the same, supposedly clever and wealthy, you don't appear smart enough to be self-employed, perhaps you have a trust fund setup for you by an adult. So, what are your solutions, other than a concertation camp? We have someone here who is very concerned about what people are doing to help the homeless on an individual basis and since you are wealthy, what are you doing?

Shelters are inherently unsafe IMO. I've heard some pretty bad stories. Also crawling with social workers trying to get you to sign your soul away, and admit to all your problems legally.. on top of being around sex offenders, and pyromaniacs trying to burn the place down all the time, etc. I would rather sleep outside in a tent too, and not be harrassed about it. I sure wouldn't setup my tent next to all the people addicted to drugs and drama though..
