Being geologist myself, I had to look, what Tanzanite is :). Have you ever worked with tectites, like Moldavites (Vltavin)? Love them, even when it´s just a "glass". Especially in combination with red garnets, beautifull stuff....
I may have. I've seen and touched a lot of interesting things in the last 14 years in coture jewelry. I could make a whole album. I photograph the interesting things when I'm able.

What i remember from scholl, black tourmaline (Schorl species ) was used for cleaning pipes (something with static electricity). You see, what university grade is good for...:). I´m doing groundwatter now, so nothing special with minerals, but still can admire nice work with gems.

Hey, if you are interested in cast aluminum instead of platinum...:)

My nemisis is that barrel of molten aluminum being poured, guy chases me everywhere with it.
I'm starting to get Stockholm syndrome, I felt sorry for a robot with a leaky hydraulic arm.
It had a bandage on, and a blankie to keep the holding tank warm, poor robot.
{This one is feeling ok, temp is normal!)
