Got guns?

Hornady and Winchester still make 25-35 brass. Definitely seems like a roll your own type of rifle.

I've been stocking up on some home roles myself. I got 600 rounds .357 and 200 rounds 45-70 ready for some nice weather.
The savings on the 45-70 is substantial considering it's $60-$75 a box in my area.
I did the math assuming at least 10 firings on the brass.

Plinkers with Berry's Plated Bullets: 6¢ Brass, 23¢ Bullet, 25¢ Powder, 8¢ Primer - 62¢ per Round

Thumpers with Hornady/Speer JSP: 6¢ Brass, 65¢ Bullet, 30¢ Powder, 8¢ Primer - $1.09 Round

And the old saying is definitely true, you don't save any money reloading....you just shoot more.

Yeah, with the new no lead laws in Ca. the gun is pretty much relegated to a wall hanger or target gun. To use it for hunting I'd have to reload copper rounds, and I'm not sure if the barrel has enough twist for a copper round. They're brush guns, the effective range is only about 125 yards.

It's cool you have a 45-70, I've always wanted one of those. Old guns just have a look and feel to them.

I did sone reading and it seems those older 25-35s had a 1-8 twist, later they moved to 1-10. That should work for modern .257 copper bullets.

I wouldn't have traded in some of my grampa's cool old guns that had hard to find pricey ammo if I was reloading years ago.
Two guns from the 1930's a 300 Savage Model99 and .22 Hornet Winchester Model 54.

Pretty sure mine is a 1-8, but I use a .270 now for my deer hunting. Where I hunt there are blacktails, which are smaller, but there's also mule deer, and that would be on the edge for a 25-35, would have to be a real close shot. I've also got a WWI 30-40 Kraig, which is still a relatively easy round to find. The other difficult one is an old 22WRF pump, that's also hard to find shells for, no way will they ever make those in copper, so it's a target gun exclusively now. I've got several older shotguns that are target only, or I have to use bismuth shot, which is prohibitively pricey for duck hunting. I also have a replica blackpowder percussion cap 12 gauge (side by side), it's a blast to shoot, but again, needs bismith shot. I learned early that you better pull the second barrel real quick or you can't see through the smoke, there's a reason they called them "iron skunks"!

Yup, that's a new Ruger Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70.
The shotty is a 590, they started offering walnut furniture again a few years ago.
Ah 45-70. Big round. Too expensive up here for ammo. I stick with .357 because I make .38 and .357 and had everything handed down to me. Dad used to sport shoot here and in the USA. Id love to get a 44mag as well but again... Rounds are exp
So far I like what Ruger has (or hasn't) done with the Marlins. In Canada the .357 I want is $1999. :(
I have a Rossi r92 in .357.
Can't find a pic on my phone but this is the exact model

Thats a slick looking rifle, I like the included rail and peep.

The only reason I got a 45-70 was because I planned to reload. No way in hell I was gonna pay those ammo gougers.
I dumped all my 38 brass and now load everything in 357 cases. This Lee die works great for fast solid crimps. I was having issues before with roll crimps sperating the plated bullets jacket.

Lol funny you say that, the included rail and peep kept getting loose Everytime id shoot. I tried everything and each time same thing.. ordered a skinner sight matching stainless pic rail and a dovetail ghost ring.
I have rcbs. Any straight case is easy peazy to reload. I'm trying to get into reloading my neck downs like .308
My issue is I have thousands of .357 and .38 casings but no 45/70 or.44. So to buy all the reloading supplies and casings etc would be a hefty initial investment.
