bahh i just come on here to read usually but had to sign in to make a post.
as a stoner forum, im disappointed that so many of you are so judgemental and ignorant. this guy sounds like a friend of mine, a buddy thats always at my house that doesnt know every single thing about growing, but knows his basics from what he observes. he always asks random questions like that, i even let him experiment on one of my plants by putting trichomes he collected from his grinder onto a bud throughout its growth. and while its results werent phenomenal, it was definitely dank.
point is, people can experiment just for shits without expecting a miracle breakthrough. an iPod screen probably isnt the most efficient, nor brightest nor best spectrum for growin MJ, but who knows maybe if ur vegging a plant and ur power dies and all u have is an iPod, wouldnt you be glad to know if it worked?

and i have thought of growing with christmas lights too lol. obviously not as a primary source of light, but there are white LED ones that could easily fit into the depths of the canopy..

he does know HOW to grow, he said himself that he has CFL's, which plenty of people use for reasons other than stupidity. such as heat or space issues.
how does this make no common sense? sure there are worse lights, but it follows basic principles: plants need light. its not light hes trying to grow a plant with a fucking lighter. its a bulb.

YUP. also what if this worked... even a little, what if it did? then you research the type of light source your using and you build one say 1 by 2 feet. maybe bigger. prob wont work but we should soon find out... or did we already idk i wasnt paying attention. must be my feeble mind.

i wasnt paying attention to if it even worked or not. im just disappointed in all the people insulting this guy and his intelligence, it was a valid question.
i didnt see many valid, intelligent responses as to why it wouldnt work. i just saw plenty of mockery.

ok just for you trying to give this guy credit, saying its an intelligent question...:roll: Do you understand how the sun works..?? Marijuana grows "the best" is right around the equator, around 10,000 lumens per square foot.... A cell phone light, giving it the benefit of the doubt, produces maybe....... 5 lumens total.... So you expect to grow a plant, which originally grew with 10,000 lumens per square foot with 5 lumens per who the fuck knows, cause I doubt hes capturing the light.... so lets say 1 lumen per square foot... Plants do not grow with 1 lumen of light...(once again, 1 lumen being given the benifit of the doubt...)

Now to the original poster, stating, "this is an experiment," after being mocked for 6 pages.... LMFAO too funny, and then u get all upset cause ppl are making fun of an idea that only a "child" would find feasable..... Saying"I wonder y ppl are making fun of me ???":roll: Maybe because ur lack of understanding of botany is clearly visible :-?

dude. i think we have an excellent understanding of how the sun works. not about the sun, or the equator, or yours or my point of view. its about inginuity, progress, amongst other things. I hear ALOT of assumptions on this site alot of which ive proven to be assumptions. as well as things people say dont work and thats not how its done blabla.

i know how to grow dank shit, i dont use an iPod, nor will i. but you guys are stupid for shitting on this guy who asked a question, while no one actually knows if it works or not
