Well I am down to just Juliana now. Tia turned or to be a Tony. So I trimmed her up to show some pics of how I LST'ed her.. him... shim? My fingers got super sticky just from holding the leaves as I snipped them with scissors, and it had a wondering spicy vegetable aroma. Here are the pics from the trimming:

So I spread out Juliana's branches a bit more. I noticed I had snapped one branch. I think it happened a day or two ago. It is already healed up but a little weak. She has a completely different smell from Tia. It is a sweet veggie odor. I like it a lot. Temps a re a little better today. We had a cold night. I also made a CO2 generator out of a 1-gallon apple juice jug. Although it hasn't really begun producing yet. I think the yeast I used is slow starting. If it doesn't start by tomorrow I'll try again. Never had this problem before. I'm also making mead which has been fermenting for almost a month. I should have put that in my grow room, but now it's not producing enough CO2 to be effective. Here are some pics of Juliana:

As a side note I will not be using this method of posting pics anymore. Very poorly designed and a pain to fix if you make one little mistake.

I took these just before lights out on day 7. I am pretty sure she will be done relatively soon. If it is really fast, like six weeks or less, I may do a partial harvest and re-veg her. That is still a ways off though. As a side not Juliana has about 17 branches at the canopy level, two of which are what I would consider main colas. These pics are of one of those main colas.

Just wait til you see Juliana. I have a branch in the center that is corkscrewing. I have 4 different ties on it to keep it even with the rest.

One other thing. If anyone out there makes a clubbell make sure you have plenty of free space when swinging it. I almost destroyed my new box when I hit it and it got shot across the room. It has a huge crack in the side now. Those things can do some serious damage.

Juliana's coming right along. She keeps putting out more and more pistils. I'm brewing up some compost tea for her to have tomorrow. It's made with composted cow manure, high phosphorous bat guano, and sucunat. The last pics are of the fermentation jug I set up. I have a tube running the CO2 to the base of Juliana. Haven't really figured out what I will do about it during the dark period. I have a splitter I may attach to the hose so I can catch the CO2 in a beach ball or something. Although I am not sure how effective it will be if I squeeze it all out when the lights turn back on. I would think it would all get sucked out pretty quick. Would it really make enough difference to collect it during the night?

Here are the yogurt cups I'm going to use for the new grow. They are 1qt. Should I double these up since they are thin? The plastic trash can I am using for Juliana isn't completely light proof. When held up to a light it glows through. Tia had roots on the outer edges of her's and they looked healthy, but their canopy did a good job of blocking the light too.

i think you should try something bigger than a quart, unless you plan to do 12/12 from start. you veg out way long, and that cup will require a lot of attention to water and feed

How long did Juliana veg? I think a might not have vegged long enough, newb mistake. Oh well Im gonna bust out a femmed super lemon haze and veg the hell outta her while my master kush flowers up. Well I'll at least let her fill the screen a fair bit more. Juliana is looking great btw. Great LST job! U got me thinking about it maybe give a shot myself.

I definitely recommend LST'ing, especially in a box. Topping isn't even necessary because you can continue to tie down the main cola. Although once the cola starts outgrowing everything else it may become more difficult. It really gives you the chance to maximize your grow area though. Just as long as you don't wait too long. I've been lucky. Most of my plants tend to grow very squat. I have a feeling it may have something to do with the box (lights, temps, or anything else).

I vegged Juliana for 48 days and then gave her a full day of darkness to jump start her flowering stage. So if you count that day it was exactly 7 weeks of vegging. Looking back, I should have waiting to top her and thinned out the lower branches that aren't growing very well instead. I could have had more branches and they probably would have been more spread out. It wouldn't have worked with Tia while I had her though and I would probably have ended up flowering much earlier and getting a lower harvest. Juliana does have 2 very thick branches which kind of took over as the main colas.

Here are some pics from the start of day 9 of flowering:

whats your method for tieing down the main kola?

plants look great
There isn't a true main cola. I topped her, but two side branches took off and are extremely thick. These also have the best growth on them. To tie them down I got a spool of twist ties (like the thing used to close a bread bag) from Wal-Mart for about $3. It's a hundred foot twist tie with a cutter on the spool, and they are definitely the easiest ties I've ever used for this.

Juliana is still doing great. I gave her some of the compost tea last night and no negative side effects this morning. She has been having some yellowing leaves that I pick off when they are weak enough to be pulled off easily, but that is it. I also pruned a bunch of the fluff buds down low on her so she wouldn't waste energy on them. I didn't take off too much though. I don't want to risk doing too much at a time, or pinch viable bud sites. I'll probably end up chopping right where the canopy line is now and then give her extra time to finish the lower buds. I decided against re-vegging since I have plenty of seeds. Plus that would be a lot of wasted time and space.

She coming along nicely for just day 10 of flowering. What do you all think?

Yeah the ties look mucho easier. Jebus u almost got me sold on lst over scrog. I wish I woulda vegged longer so we could compare.

Ima get me some twist ties

How many nodes up did you top them at?
I think I topped it around the 7th or 8th node, but I think next time I won't top and just continue to pull down the main cola and wrap it around the pot. When you do that it doesn't really become one giant cola. Instead, each bud site will grow straight up. So it looks like a line of trees growing out of the branch.

Like I said before, LST'ing, I think, gives you more control, but is way more time consuming. You can spread them out a lot more evenly in my opinion. Once they go through the screen and start growing up they are there. So some branches might be leaning toward each other blocking some light to the lower parts. Then again there was that 150w HPS grow that one guy did that was sick. I couldn't believe how uniform he got it from SCROGing. If I ever do use SCROG I will make sure to attach it to the pot though. I've seen people do it where the screen is attached to the table and they can't move their plants until they harvest. In which case I doubt they flush them out

Yeah good point I'm going to attach mine somehow and maybe do an oven type rack so I can slide em out. Would def. make things easier! Dudes scrog was pretty nice. Damn I wish I'd vegged longer!

The new seeds didn't pop in the paper towel after 3 days so I went ahead and planted them in soil and put them under the UFO. I didn't really have anyway to keep the paper towel warm other than pointing a light on it at very close range. I was worried they weren't going to sprout so I just dug up 2 of them. Both had popped and I stopped digging when I saw the stem. Both were also in an upside down u-shape. So they must have just recently opened up. I think they will break through the top of the soil in the next day or so, and hopefully all of them will. I think the 2 I checked were Indian Haze because the stem was extremely thin. I forgot to label them when they got planted.

Bad news. I dropped my camera last night and now the flash doesn't work. I can still take pics but they will probably be dark from now on. Also, if anyone is thinking about making some clubbells like I did I say go for it. I had to give up exercising over a year ago from an injured elbow. It never really healed and I've had chronic pain in it ever since. Since I started using the clubbell though the pain has gone away. It feels the best it's felt in over a year. Plus my forearms are already getting ripped, my shoulders have all their definition back, and my lower abs have veins starting to pop out. It's basically a full upper-body workout! I've gotten so much stronger so quickly I had to make a new one the other day. It weighs about twice as much and the weight is further out. It is filled with sand right now and when it becomes too easy I can pop the end off, top it off with a couple glasses of water, and then seal it up permanently. I also switched from a 3/4" to a 1" handle.

Here's a pic of the old one and the new one.

Juliana is looking awesome. Bud production is coming along nicely. If she continues at this rate I really do think she'll be done in a relatively short period of time. No maintenance was required tonight. Her branches were good and she is still heavy from her watering last night. I decided to risk the heat and raised her up closer to the lights. She is about 3" or 4" higher than before. You can see in the pic through the window how much higher she is now. I'd say she is 5" or so from the lights now.

The pics came out okay. A touch blurry but it kind of has a nice effect on some of the pics. Like the one of the single bud close-up. I had to wear a LED head lamp to snap them.
