Supplies to make life ez.
tray/dome (taller domes are better cuz u can have bigger clones and bigger clones = bigger plants faster)
Root Riot tray (~25, comes with 50 cubes and a packet of clonex).
Spray bottle, water & superthrive
Liquid Karma by Botanicare is great for cloning.
I take my clones with scissors, people say strait edges are better, but I'm not having issues so why change it. Anyways, I get my clonex rdy to go in a small cap or container. Then I fill my little spray bottle with water & a couple drops of the superthrive. I also mix Liquid karma at half strength (about 5ml/gal) and drip a few drops onto each cube with a pipette.
Things to note when taking clones...
1) look for healthy end branches with healthy growth, they shouldn't be deficient to begin with. Slightly thicker stems seem better than flimsy branches.
2) take the clones when the nutrients are reduced on the mother if at all possible, this helps rooting.
3) When taking a clone, cut right below a node and then remove that node from the side of the stem (it should be at the bottom of your clone if you cut it right). Roots will grow out of this wound.
4) After you take the clones, clip the tips of the large fans off, you want to reduce the transpiration from the leaf thus reducing water needs of the clone.
5) Spray the clones & dome at least daily, if the dome is still moist you are good, if the walls are dry, it's time for another spray.
6) LOW light this is key! Clones don't like a lot of light and strong light will cause them to droop, dry out and generally not be happy. One 4 ft, 32watt flouroscent at 12" is . want just enough light to keep them on the cycle but not enough to 'grow' them. I use 18/6 same as my mothers, but some claim clones do better on 24 hours, ur choice here.
7) Keep the temperature around 75-80 where the dome is, keeping a therm/hygro inside will let you monitor the temp&humidity accurately.
They should root in 10-14 days, I generally open the vents more & mist less as they near the end, sort of a hardening off before I remove them from the dome. I'll update this if I remember anymore tips.
