Hey man nice grow ;)

I just didn't really understand how long did you leave them for veg growing before switching to flowering time?
and how long did you have them on those (8*42 watt) cfl's for the veg growth and teh flowering ?

Cheers man let us see the result.
I vegged for about a month and did the first 6 weeks of flowering with cfl's only and week 7,8, and 9 of flowering was led only. 66 total days flowering today

Do you thing vegging them a bit more would of increased the yield or do you reckon it is unnecesary or you dont have enough space?
Did you also use the same cfl's for vegging and flowering but just change the lighting time?

Cheers.
Thx for your answers

If your gonna flower with cfl's I would say do a shorter veg because as the plants got larger I had a hard time keeping all the areas lit as the cfl's dont penetrate down below. My plants actually started getting out of control verticallay and I had to use "bushmaster". I did switch up the color of the cfl's for flowering but I do believe the lighting schedule is much more important than bulb temperature.

But on a side note when I switched to the led's there was a noticable effect on the lower buds. They went from airy to dense in the last few weeks. I am sure if I had flowered all the way through with led my yield would have better in my scenario.

Ill post some pics in a couple hours.

hehe cant wait for the pics ;)

I was actually planning on flowering with a 600W HPS and filling the lower space with some cfl's.
Damn the led setup looks tempting indeed.

well damn, my bad.....ur all dialed in, the extra cfl's should work wonders for you

I also think so.
The kit I'm buying come with a 600W HPS but I'm going to invest in some CFL's anyways for the veg stage because I'll be saving money in the long run on my elec bills and the bump in consumption wont be so obvious too.

On a side note and for anyone that might be interested l did some math to figure out how much I'm saving so here are my calculations.

I'm comparing a 600W HPS versus the setting kush groove used in this thread (at least for the veg growth)

I'll calculate 2 months for the veg stage because in my case I'm including seeding and an extra couple of weeks (I've got quite a bit of space)
so basically KG's setup uses 8*42W CFL's wich equals to 336W total (not including fans etc but there's no way around that) versus the 600W HPS included in my kit.

so after 60 days at 20h/day lighting we've got on the CFL's 60*20=1200 hours with the lights on.
for 336W that's 1200*0.336=403.2 KW/h (you can get the price of a KW/h on any of your elec bill or on the company website)

For the 600W HPS we got 1200*0.6= 720 KW/h

One KW/h with my electricity provider costs about 0.22 €
So with CFL's the total veg stage would cost 403.2*0.22= 88.7 € (it's actually a bit more since you have to add V.A.T. and I think the cost has gone up recently but this is what I could find)

And with HPS 720*0.22= 158.4 €
So I'm saving (158.4-88.7)= 69.7 €

And that's just for the first growing cycle but basically that's what I save per crop.
You can do the same for you changing the price of electricity to match yours (price can vary quite a bit).

Hope it helps some of you.

66 days flowering and all is well. Ill be harvesting any day now. I think i might go until day 70 and bring out the chainsaw.

Now imagine how much more money you would save if you went with led as opposed to your hps..... and dont forget the savings on ventilation and cooling when growing with led's, the temperature in my closet dropped almost 30F

what is the wattage on those led's ?
and how much did you end up paying for them?

Actually I think I'll go with CFL's for the moment because I cant seem to be able to get my hands on some decnt ones around here. And for obvious reasons not really happy to pay for it online.
The ventilation saving also applies to the HPS versus CFL's I believe.

Do you think you could go through the whole cycle with LED's?
cheers

A week worth of led lighting put all doubt aside for me. 240watt blackstar $260 on ebay. HPS produces insane amounts of heat you may want to look into that. And yes definitely led for the whole cycle.

This is going to be a big factor for my next crop (summer is pretty soon). Would you buy some other type of LED for the vegetation cycle?

Anyways thanks so much for your replies man and those buds look really nice.

No, they do sell a veg model led light but the flowering model works just fine for vegetation as well.

Look at the bottom of your profile pic. It's reads "Journal this post". On the right of that you'll see a "star". Click on that and that's how you give rep to someone.!
do you know how I can subscribe to a thread?
