Well isn't the truthfulness of your statement predicated on it's spelling and grammatical perfection? Or did you change your position on that?

Aren't you gonna finish your assignment I asked about? You busted my ball for not providing in depth literature for everyone of my statements. Now be consistent and tell me what the 3/5 clause was for.

He doesn't want to because he knows it will make him look stupid.

It really applies twice, once during the initial Articles of Confederation when the Northern States wanted to count the slaves because it made the South pay more taxes. This was simply because they could get more money from another state.

The second time, during the Constitutional Convention the North didn't want slaves to be counted as people at all. Yes, the NORTH wanted slaves to be considered property. Why? They didn't want slaves to be counted as people because that would make the South's population higher and thus give more power to the South.

The idea you should take away from this is that slaves didn't matter much to anyone at all at this point in history, North or South, with the exception of the slaves. Overall, no one cared about them or wanted them to be considered people unless it improved their position somehow. To try and say that this makes the North superior or the South inferior as far as morals is ignorant to say the least.

Though you are right about the purpose of the 3/5 rule I disagree with the idea that there was not a difference between the North and the South. Why were the North and South fighting for power. Slavery was a bone of contention from the beginning and the Founders looked the other way and hope to settle it when the Brits weren't waiting to strike and destroy a infant country.

To clarify. I am not stating a pro north or south position. I think there were both wrong in many ways Lincoln was a Tyrant that destroyed the country and the south was archaic bunch slave owners. Slavery would had went away without any of the Wars and legislation. The NOrth Just made things worse and the money and power was rooted in slavery down south.

Funny wow people try to change history:wall:...but I guess it is Hi(s)story .....The compromise on the 3/5 rule came about due to delegates against slavery generally wished to count only the free inhabitants of each state. Delegates supportive of slavery, on the other hand, generally wanted to count slaves in actual numbers. Since slaves could not vote:cry:, slaveholders:cuss: would thus have the benefit of increased representation in the House and the Electoral College:roll:...those tricky damn southerners:dunce:....

Who's trying to change history?I agree with you but why do you think the North only wanted to count the free inhabitants? They were trying to stop the spread of slavery especially in the territories. There always was an anti-slavery sentiment in the founding of this country.
