They don't die bear they just languish....... just when you're ready to throw them out they trick you by showing some green. I would be embarrassed To post pics Of the plants I have been unwilling to trash. I'm weak very weak.

I know I hear they take forever and are very dificult to grow because the seeds dont hold the nutrients needed to support themselves, so I hear by putting them around the mature momma orchid they get the things they need. Anyone every grow em from seed?

Just kidding bear. I'm sure you will have flowers in no time. I have been waiting for 5 years now 4 a japanese snowbell tree to flower. I crossed a pink and a white just for fun But I'm still waiting. In my defense tjey are still alive. I buy 2 dollar orchids Out of bloom. I did not know the orchid seeds lacked nutrients. I thought they were an easy plant to cross and breed. Live and learn. PD... I have also planted black walnut trees. I don't expect to. Ever see walnutus but maybe the grandchildren will.

Well hot dang.. Found a flowering orchid in the mess that I call a greenhouse. Really a north facing sunroom but It work well for plants that don't like light.
:-?

I have NOID once again. (No ID). I don't have the slightest idea what it is and it's not my favorite. Very pot bound and in needs of a major transplant and some serious clean up work. If you notice it is hosting some MITES. danny I gotta try your suggestions of Flormite (sp) and something else but I'm sure I will have to mail order. I guess all that is required is more money.

So someone narrow this guy down as to at least species. I grow a bunch of Brugmansia/Angel Trumpets varieties and the moment you lose the label it becomes a NOID. Cuts down on breeders losing their work. It's just so easy to propagate that I can be selling someone elses plant in months. But I digress. (again) I do have a few more orchids to bloom and I "think" they are my more favored. Buying out of bloom and with no labels is a crap shoot. A crap shoot, but a fun one. lol

Lousy Picture..

Those are beautiful the pattern really stands out while still having subtle enough color tones, I beleive the species is related to this guy

That's pretty darn funny bear. The sad part is the similarities are amazing. LOL. . The flowers are only fair But they are nice enough to hide the mess of a plant behind them. I have no idea what the species is either. I could look it up in my book "Ortho's All About Orchids". Ortho and orchids... who would have thought. I don't know species very well but as long as there alive I win. Ha Ha.

That is very true Roots, as long as they're alive your winning, just like any plant too many people out there striving for that perfect game, the big 300 as long as your plants are alive and successfully completed their life cycle you've won.

Nice vaginas you shot there.

I think the one with the tiny pink petals is a Flamingo Orchid, I maybe wrong, but I have seen those before.
Nice lilly too. What's the last one? Not belladonna... hmm. can't think of it.

very nice! the first one looks like a cymbideum of some sort but i'm a noob when it comes to orchids. looove that yellow one.

the red one on the bottom is a christmas amaryllis -- i forget the latin but it's not amaryllis belladonna (<-- which i would give mr kitty's left 'orchid' for some seeds of).
the last one with the alien penis is a hibiscus.

That's hilarious, Id give my left orchid for many of the plants in there. I sometimes bring little camera containers with me as i take pics if i find seed pods I try and take some, the staff is pretty good for just handing you some if you ask usually. But what is so special about the one you'd give Mr.Kitty's left orchid for? Just pretty or is there more to this flower?

oo, oo, i do that at the botanical gardens

mostly just pretty. i love "naked lady"-type flowers, there's a vulnerability to their robustness that just tickles me. BUT they're notoriously finicky and probably won't grow here. *sigh*

Do they need high humidity? Those naked ladies kinda look like my ornamental nicotiana flowers last year but they were blood red.

That's 1 beautiful pile of orchids. Mine will never be as free of stress and pests as those are. Started some calycanthus with pods poached from the arboretum and they're doing just fine. I must admit to having a twinge of guilt but I'm living with it. My favorite way to poach plants is to go to the arboretum with an extra large coffee cup with a cover and a little water in it. Razor knife in hand I take cutting and then run home to either put in water or dip in rooting hormone. I know I shouldn't do it but wth. I am taking classes there as well and get first dibs on any plants they sell in the spring. I know its wrong and i am living with the shame and the guilt, but i figure to successfully root about 5%. I did take cutting of a verigated willow a few years ago and every one took. Talk about easy. Theft is theft however much you sugar coat it. Anyone want an scuba japonica. Scarce around here but a beauty

I know what u mean stealing is stealing but the plant will get over it, hopefully the staff will too lol. Plants should be free to anyone who could prove they can keep a plant alive. Hand out some kind of green card or something lmao , maybe a green thumb card.

That's a great tip BTW, with the coffee cup ill be chuggin my McDonkeys Large Java Sludge before going in next time. Where do you keep scissors or do you have like Edward scissor hands deal going on lol, I personally don't have nails so I cant do like my mom and pinch em off.

Haha, I can imagine myself in the arboretum. Strolling through with some styrofoam cup and when the coast is clear - SWITCHBLADE!
Taking cuttings isn't stealing in my mind. Maybe if you tried to get a secret clone from your friend's secret strain that he keeps super secret and secretly hidden in his secret spot(how many more times could I have said secret?) - yeah, that is stealing.
The orchids look like better vaginas than testicles.
I might get some of those Naked Ladies if I ever run across them.
Hibiscus, duh! I'd rather have honeysuckles.

I got something for you knuckleheads that is fresh off the press and will appeal to you.I am not famillier with the Vanilla Orchid other than by it"s taste on the table but check this out!!!
THE NAME VANILLA CAME FROM THE SPANISH WORD "VAINILLA" THE DIMINUTIVE FORM OF "VAINA" ( MEANING "SHEATH" ), WHICH IS IN TURN DERIVED FROM THE LATIN " VAGINA".
:!:
So if you chose you would be correct if you were to start calling the VANILLA ORCHID a VAGINA ORCHID. Maybe the next time I go to the ice cream shop I will order a bowl (not a cone) of VIGINA BEAN. Maybe even VAGINA BEAN in a VAINA I want to thank WIKI for clearing all this up and it is a topic that has sufficient meat left on the bone for a few further laughs. Laughing my Orchids off right now. I think I need some sun light.
:dunce::dunce:
Gotta get me some vanilla.

Now if you know about this "secret strain" and it's super secret spot wouldn't that mean it's not a secret and ok to take a cutting lol :D

They sure do but someone messed up with the naming of em.

Careful charges may be laid, if the ladies are naked odds are they don't want to be bothered :-P

And vanilla is my favorite ice cream flavor and for many things;-), now i know why lol
