Drug test for welfare

Oh, I was just hoping. I can't imagine having such a silly business plan. Can you imagine if everyone with a seasonal job just went broke out of season? Yikes... But if that's acceptable I think I might have to go be a pot smoking ski lift attendant in Florida. I'm sure I'll have a job for at least a week out of the year and the rest is up to you guys. Thanks!
In this economy ... one does as one must. I had a year-round salaried career-style job once, and on some days I sure do miss it. cn

I keep hearing different numbers. I was originally against this idea because of cost but are you saying it only cost the state $45,780? Wow... crazy tiny number. And to think of how many people straight up didn't file claims. None of the articles address indirect savings.
it cost the state more money to test than to carry on as normal.

it's bad policy, and unconstitutional to boot.

What farmers get paid not to farm? And why? And whose fault is that? And what do these few bizarre farmers have to do with the subject? Are they on welfare?
Remember Catch-22? There was a chuckler about just that.

Recall that in Joseph Heller’s “Catch-22,” Major Major Major’s father is a wealthy alfalfa farmer who receives a farm subsidy not to grow alfalfa – which he uses to buy more land on which not to grow alfalfa. As he tells his son: “The Lord gave us farmers two strong hands so we could grab as much as we could with both of them.”
from http://www.bloggernews.net/110231 ... I am not endorsing or damning the views therein ... cn

Sarcasm? As far as I know most people with seasonal jobs do go broke and collect unemployment. Atleast all my landscaping buddies. Without unemployment there'd be less incentive to return to that job or even start that job. Entire sectors of private businesses would fail. I know the pool industry would fail.

UB you think the majority of farmers that grow subsidized crops sit around doing nothing all day? That they don't have jobs? We're talking majority here not outlier. They the same as people sitting at home smoking crack living off benefits?

I'm against most farm subsidies but they are irrelevant to the point.

Oh god... You know SS is drying up right? Yikes... Would you have more money if you didn't buy pot?

You must have a strong grip on good economic principles.

By all means go after the absurb laws enabling this shit - http://abcnews.go.com/US/city-dwelling-landowners-paid-millions-farm-secondary-estates/story?id=13916915#.T-0Re_Vyy20 You think drug testing them would stop them? I think they'd sober up for the test...
Dairy farmers get paid to not dairy farm. Corn farmers used to get paid not to grow corn (no longer true). Others, too, like the ones in your link (thank you for answering your own question). Someone argued farmers contribute so shouldn't be tested. Just pointing out sometimes farmers don't contribute. Yes, but they call it "agriculture subsidies". I'm against drug testing. pot takes a month to get out of your system.

I thought SS was Fica while unemployment was funded by Futa. Different compartments. I could be wrong. cn

Do you know how unemployment works? your employer takes money from your check and pays into the state fund...it is based on salary and how much you paid in..you can't work for a week and take 51 weeks off...and the money is not much...probably about 3 days pay every 2 weeks..not enough to live on...most concrete workers are off 3-4 months a year and bust their ass for 8 or 9 months.

Why on earth is this not in place already? welfare, unemployment benifits, social security, food stamps. Drug tests for any government benifits. I knew this dude that took his food stamp card, bought a bunch of cases of cheap soda, had his kids pour it out in the parking lot, cashed the cans in for deposit, bought smokes, 40's and ordered a dime bag.
because why on earth would you waste more money then you are going to save?

I'm just worried about him. And annoyed. Not treating it as safety gaurd but actually planning on it using it as an income source once a year. Wow... not what it was intended for.

Indeed, for it is the pennies that are bankrupting this nation, not the trillions given to the banks, and the poor must not be allowed to enjoy their lives, in fact we need guards at local public parks to keep people out who lack a certificate of employment, because they could be out looking for jobs, instead of goofing off taking their kids to the park... let them watch Elmo, and let the parents trudge off to slave in the mines and wipe their asses with their Ivy League educations. No fun for the poor! Being poor should mean misery, deprivation, and self-loathing. Every smile you see is proof they could be working harder, they could live with less. Take away their TVs and phones, sell their books on the sidewalk. Drive their wages into the ground, and hire cops to beat back the protests. Nutrition is a luxury, so let them eat cake, a cake baked from stale flour.

It's based on how much you once earned but does not correlate to how much you've paid in. You can take out MUCH MUCH more than you've paid in.

He does not understand that farmers get billions is handouts but they are somehow different from food stamps.
