cut the state into thirds and sac is in the central third. cut it into halves, it's in the northern half.

The trouble with this line of reasoning is that it puts your opinion on an even footing with the cultural convention(s). That's fine when you're only talking by and to yourself, but when you use it as a springboard for declarations like " ... isn't in Northern California", you are abandoning your prepared defenses ("it's an opinion") and insinuationg that simple common sense should make it clear that your way is the better.

That's no longer "having an opinion" but invades the "prig" portion of the Venn diagram.

I suspect you're aware of this and just dropping into your mirth-soaked schtick, "let's see how long we can milk this ostrich". At least I hope so. But while you're divvying the state into neat thirds, those of us who've embraced Cultural geography will ponder the conundrum whether only the upper half or maybe all of the Sand Joking Valley is NorCal or not. cn
