Hey gun nuts, is this your idea of a perfect society?

neither are toys and both serve their own purpose. but ide rather have an sks than an ak. and the 7.62 is a pretty good round. was thinking about getting a 7.62 chambered AR myself to have the best of both world. blew a toilet to pieces today with a sks with 2 shots. fun to shoot if nothing else.
I'd hate to share your apartment.

most of the guns in africa come from cold war stockpiles of soveiet crap weapons or third rate chinese garbage.

i cant think of a single african nation that manufactures a single weapon more sophisticated than a spear.

wow, now that i look at it, thats looks really racist... but it's still true.

Does it matter where they from? Probably smuggled in illegally by eric cockface holder
not cockface, "Cockbreath"..

looking like a cock is natural for him, and he really cant help how his cock-like face looks exactly like a semi-turgid uncircumcised penis, but his bad oral hygiene, particularly after taking a shot of man chowder in the mouth is inexcusable.

i mean, africa gets the shitty, clapped out shot to shit worn down to the nub junk weapons which are rated as unserviceable in the rest of the world. even on the incredibly shitty scale used to rate chinese weapons, afrca gets the class D and lower junk.

I am so insulted..........

You are being very disrespectful...

toward the AK, have you actually seen an 'unserviceable' ak?

yes. my uncle had one.

it was a ww2/korea vintage POS which had been used with corrosive ammunition and left in a duffle bag for the next 30 years. the gas piston was rusted up, and the barrel was just a rusty tube with a couple jagged ridges instead of rifling.

the receiver was still good though, and once he replaced pretty much all the moving parts the barrel and the gas assembly and the wood, it shot OK. if it hadnt been full auto, it would have been worthless even for parts.
as it was purchased for $75 it was a piece of garbage, deemed by the seller and all others who looked at it before to be nothing but a rusty curio.

admittedly an AR in similar condition would probably have a deformed or cracked receiver, or some other flaw making it completely worthless for anything other than recycling for the aluminium. a steel receivered ASR would have faired at least as well though, since steel doesnt care if it's made in springfeild missouri or vladivostock.

and a moped is a motorcycle...

AR's are a triumph of design over engineering, they have too many concessions to the foolishness of 1960's military doctrine to be really effective at what they pretend to be,, which is a weapon of war.

Cartridge Chambering: the 5.56 nato cartridge is aa high velocity low mass plinking round better suited to varmint shooting and target competition than the serious business of killing people. i would not like to be shot with one, but if i had to choose one round to get hit by, the 5.56 nato would be a lot better choice than getting shot by a .308 of a .50BMG.

The 5.56 round is mediocre, but that's why they harp "2 to the chest, 1 to the head". It's not perfect, but it gets the job done with great range and low recoil.

"Recoil Buffer": dude... who needs a spring loaded recoil reducer with a mild ass round like the .223? answer: pansies.

It's to facilitate quick follow-up shots and increase rapid-fire controllability. Shoot a bolt action 5.56 and a buffered AR chambered for the same round. There is a major difference in felt recoil and muzzle jump.

Tacticool Accessories: useless fripperies

So I guess the IR designator, broomstick with bipod, ACOG, and surefire on a military combat rifle are useless? Most of my still-enlisted friends would disagree.

Plastic: Plastic Parts Are Made For Toys.

High strength plastics on weapons is nothing new, and it never caused my rifle to fail.

Light Weight: Too delicate to be used as a club, too light to serve as a a butt stroker, and too short to be effective as a bayonet shaft.

I've seen an M16 take an impressive level of abuse, they're sturdier than you give them credit for. They weigh 7lbs empty, trust me, that's enough weight to lay someone the fuck out. Bayonet combat is highly unlikely, but if it came down to it, I can tell you it's long enough.

Fragile Construction: if you drop it or hit somebody over the head with it, you have no weapon any more. brilliant.

I've seen them take 8' free falls off of a tank onto concrete before without a problem, they aren't that fragile.

Dust And Sand: when you open the hatch to make it ready for use, you make it vulnerable to failure from small amounts of dirt and debris.

I spent 4 years stationed at 29 Palms, there's sand everywhere. I had a total of zero jams due to sand or foreign debris. All my issues were shitty magazines.

Gas Tube Action: the kalashnikov's long piston gas mechanism doesnt freeze up in the cold, bung up with grease mud sand or crud, and doesnt corrode from the inside until it suddenly fails without warning. gas tubes are more rube goldberg complexity for the sake of having "Clean Lines" and "Edgy Futuristic Design"

Like I said, we are still fielding M16's in combat that have been around since desert storm with great effect. Proper care of your weapon keeps these issues at bay and extra parts to a minimum.

Final Analysis: The AR series is designed to look cool, and engineering took a distant second place. AR's are the iMac of guns, shiny plastic and modern looks concealing serious engineering faults and compromises for the sake of appearance

The AR is not a perfect rifle, but it really is nowhere near as bad as you say. They function just fine and are more than sturdy enough.

kalashnikovs are a finely hone battle implement who would only suffer from a slightly anemic round and generally loose chamberings.
Kalashnikovs are great, but they aren't the holy grail of combat rifles. Though you may be opposed to it, the M16 chambered in 5.56mm gets the job done. Provided you have good mags and take care of your weapon, it will keep your ass alive.

my grandpappy's 80 year old rem model 8 in .300 sav is more reliable, more durable, and doesnt take 3 shots to put a deer down, much less a human. given my druthers i would take any number of guns before i even looked at an AR, even the Kalashnikovs are lower on my list than other superior arms. limiting it just to rifles carbines and pistols, and not the exotics or custom arms for the coming zombie apocalypse this is how i would rank my ideal weapons:

Thompson m1 a1 with the cutts compensator and snail drum magazine
M1 garand
my grandpappy's colt peacemaker
my grandpappy's rem model 8
my sig saur p226
a savage 99 lever gun
a p90
an ak47
my enfeild
a whole lot of other shit...
a baker rifle
an AR10 or AR15
a whole lot of other shit
a fench Lebel pistol
a dull pocketknife
a pointed stick
a whole lot of even more dubious other shit...
a fire team made of the finest members of congress armed with bazookas, flamethrowers and grenades
shooting myself in the mouth with a 12 guage shotgun kurt cobain style
falling off a 20 story building and halfway down catching my eyelid on a nail.
hanging myself with piano wire.
TWO Lebel pistols

I'll take my Mosin over your Enfield, Kynes ;)
my brother has a nagant, he keeps trying to get me to trade, my enfeild is better.

enfeild advantages:
.303 brit,, more powerful round easily found in factory ammunition from a number of US sources (remington particularly)
10 round detachable box magazine
made to the exacting standards of the british empire
served with distinction from the 1870's to the 1970's
smooth cock on closing action
luxurious wood furniture
low recoil due to excessive mass
chrome lined bores quite common
dozens of accessories for every taste readily available including chamber sets to fire 32 automatic and 22 lr cartidges

enfeild disadvantages:
bolt spring causing excessive headspace and cartridge stretch :-(
heavy as fuck
bayonets cost a packet if you can even find a good one

nagant advantages:
dirt cheap
well made and durable
bayonet comes with.
good locking lugs and solid bolt operation

nagant disadvantages:
7.62x54R cartidge has way more bark than bite
not very accurate, usually shoots low and to the left if the bayonet is not mounted
too light in the nose, causing excessive barrel climb
5 round fixed magazine
stiff often sticky cock on opening action
finicky bolt system
weird russian through and through sling mounts make fitting a sling chancy at best
most loaded ammunition is berdan primed and/or corrosive and/or made in russia. a dicey prospect indeed
reloading dies have been suprisingly difficult to locate
shitty wood
bores not chrome lined
smell it before you buy it. some have been soaked in urine before being coated in cosmoline or grease for storage. (dont ask)

Yup, my first gun was a No4 Mk1. Had to clean the cosmolene off myself. That gun is a beast, smooth bolt too. I was lucky enough to find the spike bayonet at a gun show in Ventura for about $5. I'll take it over my M44 any day. Don't forget that all old Russian weapons have a short length of pull, or so it always seemed to me.
