Sure they are, Tobbacco alone kills 1,000 times as many people as Guns do. Alcohol related deaths account for 2.5 Million deaths each year. Who would guess one of the leading causes of accidental death in this country is prescription painkillers. More than 29,000 deaths per year.

These statistics all make death by firearm seem trivial.

Because not selling them will do nothing to alleviate society's problems. You might feel better, thinking you have stopped someone from being killed, but most likely you just got someone killed by a more gruesome and painful death. Ban the sale? Can you ban the sale in another state? If your mass murderer is hell bent on getting a assault rifle, a ban on sales in California will barely be a hindrance.

But when was the last time someone walked into a room of people and used a bottle of alcohol, bottle of pills or a pack of cigarettes to kill 10+ people at once.

Thank you for pointing that out for everyone, I meant it exactly as it sounded. If you place the term assault on the weapon, does that make the gun anymore deadly than the next. Not one bit.
Lets take it a step further, without bullets, a gun is about as useful as a fence post.
The term assault has nothing to do with the weapon, as they are all capable of the same deeds.( more people have died from handguns than assault rifles) The problem is the people, not the guns, so please save the college definitions for the classroom, cause out here in the real world, that shit don't add up.

Like say a 2005 released Beretta Px4 Storm with a 17 round magazine. My understanding is you can only use the 10 round magazine with that. The 10 round magazine is color coded blue. So if a cop checks, he can instantly know you're a criminal with an illegal magazine?

My point is why have these items available for general public? That's like selling grenades in the sporting department at wal-mart and trusting that people will be responsible and do the right thing.

I think that with today and the way there are so many mentally unstable people among us why have these things available at a store? Handguns, sport rifles and shotguns are deadly enough but these Assault style rifles are one kit and a magazine away from being a full on weapon of war.

Why do we need rifle's that are identical to the ones used by the military in the hands of general population? there is no good reason unless your in the boat with the guy saying "when the apocalypse happens I'll be ready" and I mean really if you really are a gun enthusiasts you know you can just trade or buy just about any gun you want through private deals. But at least if these weapons are not available for purchase at the store it lessens the chance of them slipping into the wrong hands. And that sure does not sound like a bad thing imo.

I dont know anyone who can shoot accurately in fully auto mode. It is more for suppression fire than anything else.

I love my Ruger 10/22. I stuck an AimPoint on it and keep a couple 25 round mags ready to go plinking at all times. Great little rifle.
