I don't think "simple" means what you think it means. A background check would expose prior felony convictions, which would disqualify a felon from buying the gun. What purpose would registration serve?
to let us know who the gun belongs to, you fucking moron.

that way if it's in the wrong person's hands, say a violent criminal, we know right away.

dumbass old geezer.

you can't even explain how common sense gun safety is inconsistent with the constitution, you just spout off "constitution!!! arrrgggghhhhh!!!!" like some senile old coot.

really can't wait for old shits like you to drop off this planet.
I have three kids. All of them are younger than you. All of them are able to think clearly about guns and the constitution. Waiting for me to die is a losing battle. Go back to being a leach, it is something you are qualified to do.

That is what the back ground check does. When a gun is purchased, the background check verifies that the buyer is allowed to own the gun he is trying to buy, if he is not allowed then he is not able to buy and own the gun, although why I have to point out that buying results in owning is beyond me but apparently you hopophobes have trouble with that concept. What purpose will registration serve?

What If I steal one of your guns, you don't immediately notice it missing, and the police are called to my house for something unrelated and stumble upon the gun. How would they know that I'm the lawful owner of that gun without some type of registration process?

So, you are telling me that forcing me to register my guns is for my own good. Awfully considerate of you. Perhaps you ought to come over and audit the contents of my cupboards to be sure I am eating healthily.

A right that requires me to get the permission of some bureaucrat is not a right. The second amendment has no requirement that I get your permission, or the county sheriff's permission, to own a gun.

Fuck registration. It is the first step to confiscation.

you're just paranoid that they're going to shoot you dead under the guise of registration, you've said so.

then you tried to play dumb and say "just kidding" after realizing how irrational and paranoid the sentiment was.

there are no words.

No, I'm suggesting that registering guns is for the good of public safety. If I steal your gun and my intentions are to use it in some unlawful manner, then a registration process may catch that before I use the gun to carry out a crime.

Gun registration may also help to proactively catch some nut (see Colorado shooter) loading up on a ridiculous arsenal of weapons and ammo in a short period of time.

It always boils down to YOU, and your own selfish interests doesn't it? Honestly, I couldn't give two fucks about a minor inconvenience to you when stacked up against the general welfare of society. You truly believe that people being killed (600+ since the Sandy Hook shooting) is just a small price to pay for your little fetish, huh?

For a lack of words, you sure string together a bunch of incoherency.

Explain to me again what purpose registration serves?

I don't think it is too much to ask that your "common sense" gun control proposals actually contain just a smidgin of common sense. So far, they don't.

Explain to me how your proposals would have prevented Adam Lanza from doing what he did.

Well, if that's your attitude then we better ban cars because far more children are killed in car crashes than by guns.

Public safety?

General welfare?

no?

This could easily happen to me. I see the guns I own maybe 4 times a year. I wouldn't notice one missing for months sometimes. If I'm you in this story, teenage me tells the cops I'm just holding it for a friend, adult me gets to tell the cops it's none of their damn business.

What happens if you commit a crime with my gun, that I failed to report stolen? Am I libel? If you say I gave it to you and I say you stole it but never reported it stolen....... Is this as serious as letting you leave a party drunk? Will I do time now thanks to the new policies? As it stands now I'm just out of a gun that I wouldn't miss.

The only common-sense gun safety is individual. You cannot common-sense someone else's gun, regardless of its having a safety. cn

we already have a lot of common sense laws with regards to automobile use that have helped lower car crashes.
