American Citizens Split On DOJ Memo Authorizing Government To Kill Them

the DOJ memo is just one part of the discussion of this issue that leaked, and is likely the most inflammatory portion. repeating the headline (in comic sans no less) doesnt really reinforce your position, since that headline could be as misleading as most other healdines, which are carefully designed to drive people to buy a rag.

often the "headline" is a wild stretch of of the imagination which strains credulity once you've read the article attached. THAT headline (given the text of the memo at question, and the story atttached) is just barely on the sensible side of a "Weekly World News" BigFoot's New Diet Plan headline.

Can someone please tell me how this is any different than a hostage situation where a police sniper takes out the bad guy becuase negotiation, terrain and enviroment prevents arresting the offending perpetrator?

And I am so sick of hearing about Al Awaki being an american citizen from the same people who say children born of illegals should not be citizens in this country.

It depends on how much you trust your government. Are actions of the government always justified? Are any of these murders stopping terrorism? Would we put up with drones in our airspace? What gives us moral superiority that we can decide who is a threat to us and murder them? This is preemptive war, which is pretty impossible to justify. This is just going to piss them off, not deter terrorism. The only way we can win the war on terror is to stop terrorozing.
If you don't want to be terrorized then don't terrorize others, learned it in first grade.

Got a better Idea
Dont plot to kill american citizens and we wont try to kill you

The difference is that they aren't thousands of miles away and are a direct threat to someone. They are presently engaging in harmful activities, it is not a preemptive bombing with a bunch of innocent bystanders killed. :dunce:

And I am so sick of hearing about Al Awaki being an american citizen from the same people who say children born of illegals should not be citizens in this country.

Strawman

We justify bombing people talking shit thousands of miles away but arm terrorist drug cartels just to our south. It's all bs.

The chickenhawks don't understand that all the collateral damage isn't helping their cause one bit. They're not familiar with the concept of moral superiority or the reality that using drones (that don't carry BLU96) is not increasing the safety and security of US citizens, regardless of location. While in certian situations drones might be an option, in most instances they should be limited to surveillance, observation & reporting capabilities.

That being said the reliance on drones marks a step decline for HUMINT operations which will have a negative follow on effect much like Stansfield Turner's gutting of case officers in the late 70's, instead favouring, low risk collection methods.

I love how the left is all pro war now that this admin is invading other countries. Mindless mob with no principles.
I was all pro nuking afghanistan into the 35th century after 9/11

Was against going into Iraq, and so where most sensible people I know.

Libya? Fuck yeah we should of done that 25 years ago right after Lockerbie

So you're all for bombing the Haqquanis into the stone age?

Agreed - Iraq was bullshit but on the other hand the US turned them into a Shi'ite "republic" much like the folks next door...

Libya? ehhhh....

So, you would nuke a bunch of innocent civilians in Afghanistan because Saudis hijacked planes and flew them into our building?

Here's a question for Brennan (incoming CIA head) from a former CIA case officer with 20+ years of experience on the ground in the Mid East, Robert Baer;

The Administration has claimed authority to assassinate American citizens it judges to be an “imminent” danger to this country. What sort of affiliation would cause an American to end up on a “kill list”? How many Americans are are currently on them? But most importantly, how sure are we of the intelligence that puts an American on one of these lists? There are persistent reports from Pakistan and Yemen that drones are killing the wrong people. How do we know the same faulty intelligence won’t lead to the wrongful assassination of an American?

Faulty intelligence has been a thorn in the US' side for quite some time now. Would you bet your life on potentially faulty or flawed intelligence? Because the KIDS, yes KIDS, behind the controls of a drone don't have to bet theirs, to them it's an extension of their XBOX...

and here we see the fundamental reasoning behind the anti-drone rhetoric.

it's not FAIR.

you really are precious.

We didnt kill none of them in Afghanistan?

Probably killed heaps... But Afghanis weren't in those planes nor did they support the attacks in anyway.

If the justification is they harboured AQ & UBL, then we should be in Pakistan NOW...

All the US seems to be doing is moving the crazies from one safehaven to the next with no real end in sight how long can this go on? Comparisons to the drug war are becoming evident...
