The trouble with this advice is that in the UK most temporary jobs are being filled by immigrant workers and unless your surname ends with "ski" then UK unemployed people are getting passed over for jobs.

Here in the UK for an unemployed person to save up £100-£200 would take quite a substantial amount of time. If they claim unemployment benefit (welfare) then this is around £150 a fortnight.

Could you feed yourself/family, heat your home, pay your tv license, council tax etc etc on this money.

I own my own home and pay £161 a month for elec and gas, £56 a month for water, £12 a month for a tv license, spend around £200 on food shopping, pay almost £100 a month on council tax. Then there's gasoline costs at £1.32 a litre around £6.50 a gallon or equivalent to $10 a gallon.

I actually live in what's called "fuel poverty" because I spend over 10% of my salary on electricity and gas.


So to say someone could "easily" save the money is an absolute joke when you know nothing of their circumstances.

I feel you man... Here in ireland ive just had the longest pox of a winter ever (and i mean until today)... Ive been spending 30 euro a week on heating oil, 15 on coal, 10 on logs, then 35 a week on electic, plus rent, home phone & internet, mobile, poxy 5 year old credit card, smokes and food.... fuck its hard keeping a float... FUCK THE BANKS!!!!

Nicely said Jondamon, id like to add that some1 claiming JSA (Job seekers allowance) its £116 every 2 weeks. I applyed for a job in my local factory a few weeks ago & 8/12 people that turned up for interview were Polish, i didnt get the job. Currently the job center are offering me £34 a week because of a sanction, so saving for lights isnt easy at the moment :/

If I had any spare equipment I would let you have it for a cheap price. But I don't.

I've got minimal money invested in my setup now compared to the over board hobbyist I was just over a year ago.

Incase you want to recreate my setup here is everything I use with cost break down so you know how much you'd need.

Also, OP, Jondamon is full of great info, don't be afraid to take his advice or try and mimic exactly what he's doing. Check out his journals, his buds look nice and glazed, he has great yields from a small footprint, and his setup is nowhere near overboard.

Me & my 2 business partners have never gotten along better than when we started growing. And I've only known one of them for less than 2 years, the other for less than 3 months.

This experience is far from common though. We had a bit of... problems with the 4th person that we originally started with. He's down to a 10% stake right now and 0% after this cycle.

And I have to say, it is very unpleasant having somebody in your operation that isn't perfect chemistry with everybody else.

I would highly recommend avoiding business partners, but if they're just loaning for the set-up and first cycle, and then it's all you... might be worth it. If they want a 10% yield for all future grows, don't.

Just save up and get the 400W HPS lamp. You're putting yourself into needless amounts of debt. If it's hard to find a few hundred pounds now, what makes you think it will be easy to pay back with interest?

Go ghetto and grow your operation slowly. If you expect everything at once, you'll collapse in a pile of red ink and debt...

The less money you have, the more work and creativity you're going to have to put into your grow. Make the tent out of wood 2x2s and screws. don't bother with "cooltubes", just get a batwing reflector and a magnetic ballast. Get some painters plastic and mylar blankets and staple it to the 2x2 frame. Cut a hole in the tent wall and use a stanley blower for the exhaust.

Do whatever you can to save money. If you're starting off, blowing 400 pounds on equipment all at once isn't wise, especially if you have to go into a lot of debt.

This is good advice, especially if you have little to no experience growing.

I just sank thousands of dollars into an operation, if I wasn't certain that I will have a good yield, then I'd be putting myself in a risky position.

Shit can (and often will) hit the fan, and you could lose your entire crop. Then you have nothing and you still owe the guy money.

Im not using this sponcer anymore, just going to sell the bike or save for 6-8 weeks Ive gotta close mate willing to go halfs on everything down to seeds & the rent In 10-12 weeks my CFL crop should b cut and i should b able to get a flat Im just going to sign a Yr agreement, try and fit 4 crops in, if pos? :/ The wood costs more than the price of a tent buddy :/ The strains we've chosen are:

The wood for my 2.8' x 5.6' x 5.6' tent cost 19 dollars and is the perfect size for my operation (2x400W). The mylar blankets were 10, the screws were 6, the painters plastic about 10 dollars worth. You got your tent for 50 dollars? Surely not for 19.

The 2x400W HPS setups with simple batwing reflectors and magnetic ballasts were 130 dollars each when I got them.

They stanley blower was 50 at the time, and those things suck hardcore. (in the good way) I still use the same stanley for exhaust.

Seedsman is good stuff, I helped a buddy grow some Seedsman Northern Lights & he got 10 of 10 seeds germinated & 7 of 10 females. They all turned out amazing.

For 1-4 plants, I'd recommend a grow tent. Anything more than that (with the exception of space-conserving methods such as a basic SoG) and you're probably better off building a room within a room, or converting an existing room.

From a cost-effective point of view anyway.
