uncle ben and I don't always see eye to eye but he is good on basic info and this is as basic as it gets plant the seed in a medium cover with some sort of humidity dome or plastic wrap and done. as for the head ach coming later, yes it does, when you rip the roots off the paper towel cut them when you squeeze the seed shell picking them up and then the wait or them to maybe make it above ground. just put them in the dirt and keep it moist it cuts out all the pointless bullshit. it really is silly. the paper towel holds no more water than the soil actually it holds a lot less and you risk it drying out quicker. you are just too impatient to wait for it to pop above soil you have to see it crack, being impatient does not grow weed and if you think any part of growing is a headache then your doing it wrong.

isnt it hilarious how the op only got 1 actual post? and yet there are 3 pages of posts with next to useless information about peoples personal opinions about each other rather then the question asked?

Are you sealing the paper towels and seeds in a large plastic baggie? If not that is your problem. BigSteve.

dude i had about 30% germ rate with the paper towel method this yr. then i started using rockwool cubes.
fucking simplest thing and my germ rate like 90% now. put the seeds in and sock them once a day in water
and a pinch of growth enhancer. them bitches shoot up lol

No, that will only invite pythium rot. You didn't read my archive. The radicle quickly grows to 4" long and will find good soil moisture unless some numbnuts fucks that one up too.

The "basics" is all that matters in this game. When are guys like you gonna get it? The rest of it is tricks for kids.

it's all about the temp., 75 degrees is what they like.

@uncle ben, I've never had any problems with a dome. I've got the htg kit with cubes, dome and heat mat.

I'm getting incredible germ rates. You just have to make sure the water at the bottom of the tray isn't touching the cubes. If you use perlite you have to make sure the perlite isn't too wet. You mentioned how the pro's germ. I see sannie uses a dome.

I too get near 100% germ rate with paper towel method. This has by far been the most reliable germ method I've used.

Wet paper towel until it is just slightly dripping, fold into 1/2, put seeds on it, fold it over again, put into a ziploc bag removing most of the air, throw in cupboard above fridge for 24-36 hours.

no I didn't read your archive. your archives are shit UB. I was trying to play nice and you still come off as an abrasive douche. I scanned through it rather quickly saw a bit about covering seed in cup with soil and just assumed you were on the right track but now that I go back and see all this bullshit about sterilizing seeds with bleach cooking soil.... that's a bunch of bullshhit. yea ok soak the seeds for a FEW hrs. 12 hrs not really but probably won't hurt. pythium rot sure buddy that could happen but it won't. I have 100% success, several very popular breeders will suggest you germinate seeds in this manner (in cup covered). you must hate people that take clones. I tried to play nice shitty ben but your shit dick shat shit once again enjoy your fading memories old man. not like these jackasses listen anyway they are going to use a paper towel to pregerm anyway it is some how easier than putting a seed in some soil and covering it for a few days to a week at room temperature (78 degrees) I know what I'm doing and I try to help out when I can. whenever I see you, shitty bill, your in a fight with someone over some bullshit archive from the 70's

Are these seeds looking good? I tried germinating like 80 of them and got TWO to work out of ALL of them. I hate the paper towel method it sucks. I put a paper towel I wet it I put the seeds then another paper towel and wet and cover FAIL. Should I try the cup of water method? Let them sink in there until the root comes out?
They look alright to me.

I like to soak them in water over night... Like 9 hrs... this is not long enough for them to actually germinate (usually). But, it softens the seed and starts the process... Water being delivered to inside the seed is what starts the process. So imo, soaking it overnight helps.

Using water as a way to germinate works, but I would think you are asking for fungal troubles..

I like to fill 1 qt pot with coco coir... water in the coir... make a little hole (as deep as the height of the seed)... drop the soaked seed in... cover it... water in the seed lightly. Then I sit it under T8 bulbs... If it is in the winter (cold) I use a heating pad. If not, I don't bother.

Good luck, you'll get it. MJ seeds are pretty easy.
I've been trying to germinate some Catha edulis for months now. I CANNOT get the damn things to sprout. I'm trying 5 at a time... I've been through 25-30 seeds already. Tried some indoors, some outdoors. Peat mix, coco mix, compost. Damnit. I'm trying cactus mix in a humidity dome next..

But mother nature doesn't. If it's the medium that you're using that needs the help of the extra RH you get from a dome, then so be it. Use your dome.

I wrote that archive to provide a totally foolproof method and if a noob follows it, he will have 100% germination success. Doesn't mean I do all the steps but then again, I've been doing this for decades. I've seen too many groans from folks wondering why their seedling fell over after a couple of days and every time it was due to pythium rot invasion.

Folks, for the hundredth time, there is a reason why conventional horticulturalists, pros, DO NOT use a fuckin' paper towel to germinate their seeds, even for water culture! Here's my archive......
I laughed at the fake stats and general bullshittery contained in your post. Next time I'm germinating a seed I may do a step by step photo dissection of a Jiffy pellet to show you are a waffling middle aged man in dire need of a rethink. I emailed your "clever clogs" post to several large greenhouse owners, some conventional food producers and two cannabis greenhouse owners. One in Cali one in Israel. As pros they say would love to have the time to germinate into a medium such as a sanitary, paper towel.... The food guys said they use machines to do what UB is describing..... it is because their seeds cost pennies not $10+ a seed. They say if they had the time to germinate every seed in paper towels at optimum temps, then use tweezers to gently place the seed in a Jiffy pellet or chosen medium their germ rates would be higher. Each one of them agreed upon that. So can you please find and present us the pros who back your utter twoddle? AT LEAST a 4 inch tap root before coming above ground? Errrr yeah sure...... in my career I have germed enough seeds to know that is the waffle of a man who'll make up stats to back his other waffle. Uncle Ben used to sell rice now he sells WAFFLES.
