World Of Hempy

OK all, I wanted to update everyone as to where I was at. I transplanted yesterday into my 2.5 gallon buckets and things went well. I ended up with 6, so I had to throw away 2 of them which kind of bummed me out. The roots on all the plants looked really good, nice and white with no signs of yellowing. The plants themselves look nice and healthy, they are around 8 inches or so now.

I picked up the Dyno-Gro Protekt yesterday, so that should be helpful. I also added my second 150w HPS to the grow tent. I installed an additional in-line fan in one of the bottom tent sleeves, this sucks in fresh air from the outside and helps keep the temperature down.

The plan is to clone them next Saturday and then set them to flowering on the first of September. I did indeed buy a cheapo digital camera which should be in Tuesday. I'll take some pics and post them later on during the week!

Hello WoH As stated earlier, I grabbed some new strains. I decided to start with some God Bud from JOTI and some THC Bomb. These are almost 3 weeks from ceed. I will update here as they get bigger until they show sex and then will start a new grow journal. Peace!!

I fed my mine las night and woke up today and they look great... before were a tad yellow, now a nice green that you want to see, the incoming sets of leaves look much more healthier and in all I'm feeling much better about them ...

I think i was underwatering them. since they are in rockwool, then placed in perlite, the perlite wicks away moisture i think.
I was so worried about the rockwool remaining soaked and saturated in water, and heard all the noob stories about over watering is the most common mistake so to encourage root growth i was watering sparingly, but i think now they take to the water and nutes well so far...

I only give my 2L's (mix of verm/per) about 8-12 oz of solution (8-10 for veg and 10-12 for bloom). During veg it can last about 4-5 days and during bloom every 3 days in the beginning leading to every other day starting around week 3-4, depending on temps/humidity. Not sure how much solution to use in a 2gal. Peace!!

I put half gallon but i meant half of that lol, more like a quart right now each watering with about 10-15 % runoff... right now since i dont know how far the tap root has traveled i try to water in a spiral around the bucket

I like to give them just a small shot of water right in the root zone daily until they are fully established in the rez. IMO keeping the medium dry will help to make the roots shoot out in search of water, and the added oxygen in the root zone helps with growth also.

Hey quick question, how often do you guys water your Hempy's? When mine were in Solo cups I watered them every day, but in the 2.5 gallon buckets I water every other day. Part of me thinks every day for the 2.5 gallon buckets would be better - water flooding down thru the roots creates oxygen, and it assures the reservoir doesn't get too stagnant.

Thoughts? Opinions? I know everyone has a different opinion, I was curious to what you guys thought...

I use 100% pure perlite with hydroton clay pellets on the bottom rez area and a little on the top. I have let them go up to three days without watering. However... I think it is better to go no longer than every other day for watering. Watering daily helps replenish the oxygen by pulling it into the medium. In this way drip irrigation sucks for hempy. You really need some water force to make it work properly IMO.

However, Hempy is really very forgiving and if I didn't water for several days I wouldn't freak out about it. What I know for sure is that I am soooo thankful for this method of growing and cant imagine doing it another way. (Ive done all types of hydro and soil etc...)

Hempy is even pretty damn awesome outdoors.

I think what Iampa is referencing is that when you water, I believe the original hempy recommend watering heavy, all at once like, so that on the way through the media the water would wash out the "stale" air and pull fresh air down with it due to the suction left behind after the water falls through.

Hey Darth!! Welcome to the world of Hempy! I was actually referring to the frequency of watering (every day, every other, etc.). But you bring up a good point as to why I could see watering every day - refreshing the stale air and water.

It is one of those great hempy debates that everyone has an opinion on! I am sure it has even been brought up in this thread, but I don't feel like reading through 600+ pages to find it!!

I currently water every other day. Around the 4th week or so of flowering I may increase to every day and see what happens. The good thing about hempy is it is very forgiving either way!

This Mazar mainline is noticeably smaller than the plants whose buckets dried out fully. Taking strain genetics into account, her clone is as big or bigger than the other clones. Her clone is also much fuller looking.

In no way is this a scientific study, just a small observation I noticed this current grow. I have been saying I wanted to run an experiment grow, watering one batch daily and the other after drying, but it's hard to experiment too much with a small scale grow like mine. In the end my opinion is if something works for you, that's what you should be doing.

ill have to try this out sometime when I get stuff dialed In. Doing 2 clones of the same plant a week, with a different plant providing clones each week, gives me a nice platform for experimentation. My first will be 100 percent perlite vs 50/50 vermiculite/perlite. Whomever wins that battle will then go up against 80/20. I think it will take me a full run (8 pairs of plants, roughly 64 weeks or a little over a year) to get to the point where I am comfortable introducing variables though.

I believe the consumption of water depends on the size of bucket and the environment (temp, humidity & wind/air movement), as well as its size and what stage of life

They say you can't over water hempy, but I did......I was watering my first 2L pop bottle hempy every day....it started to droop, it was Moe that suggested that I water only every 2-3 days, until it became dry...this helped allot.


when I upgraded from CFL to HPS, they needed watering everyday....but the 11 litre bucket only every second day


I water my current indoor/sunshine grow every morning at 7am and by evening it's bone dry

Hey guys I just copied and pasted this from my journal so sorry about the size. I shut the lights down this morning and will look to harvest Thursday or Friday.

• Day 61 update. It definitely doesn't look like my original plan of harvesting on day 70 was accurate. They look ready to harvest now and I gave them another shot of plain water tonight and I'll shut the lights down tomorrow morning and harvest Thursday or Friday. I could probably give the BR a few more days, but the Mazar and NL are both ready now and may start to degrade soon. They all have put on some weight this week, I can feel how top heavy the buds are right now.
  
  Didn't get alot of pics and didn't have the best lighting, but had to make it quick. My daughter has a couple friends staying over and there is nothing on earth more nosy than a group of teenage girls.
  
  Black Russian is pulling nutrients from her leaves and yellowing alot. She could probably go a bit more but she definitely came on alot at the end here. Lots of late bud development with this strain and much of her size was put on after week 6. I love her smell so much!

  NL x Skunk is also ready to harvest. She didn't foxtail much more and certainly added some weight as both the mainline and clone are tipping over. I tied them back up with some support to make it through the next couple days. She has developed more of a skunk smell the last couple weeks. Still sweet smelling too, but she has been overpowering the scrubber the last week. Glad to chop her and clear the air a bit.

Nice stoneslacker. Doesnt really look ready. I mean with all the white pistils still covering the buds. Funny how that is. I had a Violator Kush grow looking just the same with the pistils when it was ready.

Hey guys quick question... digital PH meter, anybody have a brand they trust, i dont mind paying for quality but over 50 bucks is a lot IMO, i currently use the GH PH kit, and its where you take a sample, then add the drops to the vial and compare the colors...too broad i want to dial in, and plus my eyes just are getting worse and worse, i can't even tell the different shades of color i have to ask for a second opinion always... plus im sick mixing it every time, just a waste... any thoughts? the cheap ones i see on amazon (10-15 bucks) have all bad reviews, none have solid comments about them, all seem fragile, i have a good digital ppm meter, and would like the ease of a digital ph meter lol...

i bought the bluelab pens, with the cleaner kits. you gotta make sure that if you buy a ph meter you get the proper cleaning tools, buffering solutions, and also storage solution. It's a hefty amount to put down but its well worth it cause that pen will last you more than 2 years of constant use. I'd say all together ~300$ for the PH pen, PH cleaner kit with Buffering solutions, TDS pen, TDS pen cleaner kit with calibration solution, and also the bluelab pH pen storage solution.

id say 160$ for the pH pen and cleaner and storage solution

I'm a big fan of Fisher but I don't think they sell to private people. Oakton and Bluelab make good meters.
