I find 800ish PPm is a fantastic mid-late flowering solution! Sometimes just before I flush, I'll go a bit higher; sometimes as high as 1100ish PPm.... but I've found out the hard way that it's better to run your ladies at 85% than 110%!

Babs looks pretty fuckin awesome! But I don't know what your previous grows have looked like to compare her to. Other factors could have contributed to the big colas you got here.

So all other things being equal, what's your impression of the area-51 lights? Did they perform as well as or better than say a 400 watt HPS or MH lamp?

Did they keep from heating your tent as much as an HID lamp would?

I have a pretty small grow cabinet (around 3 feet x 1.5 feet x 4 feet tall), because I have to hide it away in a closet so visitors don't see it. The SGS-160 would fit nicely in that space. But height is a problem. I'm using fluorescent lights (I know, don't gag). The good thing about them is that my plants grow all the way up to them almost to the point of touching the tubes. But from reading your journal, I gather that it isn't good to let these bright LED lights get too close to your canopy. I was wondering whether there's a way that these can be used closer to your plants during flower by adjusting the light output or turning some off or ??? Is heat the reason for keeping that distance or just too many lumens?

You can get bleaching from having LED's too close. They're also called "hash tops", as they usually turn bright white and look trichome laced.

4 feet shouldn't be too bad, you can run the LED's a little closer, you just lose a bit of footprint. In your case that shouldn't be an issue because you area is smaller than the footprint of the SGS-160.

I ramp my ladies up from about 300-800ppm through flower, peaking as high as 1100ppm sometimes, if the bitches like it.

My umoles, oh jesus I don't know. The AF-240 is 1700umoles @ 12" but I have three other panels in there too for side lighting so who the hell knows!

Now About Light Heights.I Belive Light Heights Are Strain Related When Growing With Leds.Lets Look At My Current Grow Babs Led Is At 14 Inches And Has About 960ish Umols Being Deliver To Her Canopy And You Can See The Big Buds She Is Producing.When Beckys Led Was At 17 Inches She Stoped Swelling And When I Raised It Up To 20 Inches She Started Swelling Again.I Also Seen This In My LaDiva Auto Grow.1 Plant Was Loving The Light Height While The Other 1 Had Stoped Swelling And When I Raised My Led Up 2 Inches Both Plants Love Me Long Time.The Reason I Belive Is That Leds Deliver The Light Differently Also They Use Lens To Focus Their Light.I Maybe Totaly Off Base With This Theory But It Makes Since To Me.

This is very interesting... It's making me wonder about how to use that as an advantage, IF it is valid. Not necessarily for cannabis, mind you...

Is it possible with the SGS-160 to turn off any of those blocks of 6 LEDs individually? Maybe I could turn off a couple of them if necessary. I hate the thought of turning off lights, but I wonder if that would fix the problem if the canopy gets too close to them in a height-restricted space like my stealth cabinet.

If I can raise the money, I definitely want to get one of these area-51 lights now!
