1) Plants Uptake many things that they do not eat... (that's why molasses smells)
2) Some Elements move up and down the plant... (otherwise known as Storing them)

I know #2 is going to be hard for you to understand... but look at a garden hose... when water is "traveling through" it, it is also "Storing it" in the hose

Ok, you are right, the fact that every single chemical nutrient manufacturer says you should discontinue using their product in the last week of a hydroponic grow, thus costing them money, says nothing to the fact that their may be something in them that you should not consume, it just shows that every single chemical nute manufacturer has no idea how to run a business and want their consumers to have poor harvest from unhealthy plants. It is probably a conspiracy and they collectively started this forum myth to see who could take the biggest quarterly loss by people not using their products and are secretly all sitting in a conference room laughing their asses off that people actually believe it.

How do you propose that running 10 gallons of water through a pot rinses the insides of buds out?
What is does is shut down the roots and stress the plants.

What got you started on flushing? Was it because some guy told you to do it?

Myself, I believed the lies because it sounded good to me at the time. When I investigated flushing, it did not stand up to examination.

farmers do not add 1400ppm nutrient all the way up to the last day before harvest...

Farmers usually work in the 200ppm range and their soil is around 400ppm range...

I dont recall saying you dont know the first thing about farming but whatever, I spent the first 22 years of my life as a midwest farm boy, one thing I can tell you from my limited experience is all your farmland needs to be reammended before the start of your next crop cycle because the plant absorb nutrients and the rain flushes nutrients away. Farmland is nowhere near as fertile at the end of season as at the beginning.

The rain does not "flush" the soil.
That would require biblical amounts of rain.

I grow organic. I make my own fertilizer and don't buy that expensive bottled crap.
Running excessive amounts of water through my pots would be incredibly dumb. The microbes would wash away and the roots would stop absorbing anything. How would that flush anything out of my plant?

If you flush because you are worried about chemicals why in the fuck are you growing with that shit?
If it is so bad, why feed your plant with it at all?

Nasty, toxic chemicals in your weed that foul it up and make it burn black and taste terrible.

I used to grow with General Hydroponics in flood tables and coco, modified lucas formula. I have no beef with synthetic nutrients nor am I an organic snob.
After reading about flushing I decided to stop and lo and behold, my weed was still great.
improper curing is the problem, not lack of flushing

i have grown off and on for at least 35 years, never flushed, and never heard of it till i came on the forums. i do back off on the food in the last few weeks, and have been known to never feed. you can't flush the ground, and what has already been taken up in the plant, you can't get out. i say if you do, then flush it, if you don't, don't worry about it.

I personally do not flush, because I have seen nothing that would indicate a benefit to it. However I generally stay out of these trainwrecks, as they are so counter productive. If you flush, fine. It doesnt affect MY buds in the least. Why is it so important for some to be right? Used to be just discussions on religion and politics I avoided, I guess flushing should go on that list as well!!

If it were available here in UK I would get an analysis done and scan the reports to show conclusive proof of whether anything had changed for better or worse from flushing vs not.


Everything I've ever read about rootzone, rhizosphere, osmotic pressure, uptake availability etc leads me to the conclusion that flushing isn't necessary.

I was reading another thread last night about senescence. That flushing enduces the premature senescence in a plant which happens naturally anyway.

Then there was an article about tomatoes in an edition of URBAN GARDEN MAGAZINE whereby flushing causes the osmotic pressure in the roots to kind of explode allowing a massive uptake of just water which causes split tomatoes. Now obviously this is tomatoes and not MJ.

I just wish someone would do a side by side test and post the analysed results for all to see.


All I know is that since I stopped flushing I'm getting bigger harvests with healthier plants with more flavour and aroma.

When all competing manufacturers (AN, GH, Dynagro, whoever) of the same product (hydro fert) collectively agree on the same single issue (discontinuing nutes in the final week), they have a reason. They arent dumb. Thats all I wanted to say
