MMPR Grow op: Small Scale

Thinking of dropping out of the process, after long research I find that HC just leaves producers a little bit too much without structure. Sure, make a business plan, prepare the measures for every procedure that you will execute during your production, how are you going to protect and secure the location etc etc etc... Test your product via a third party lab, pay for it. and THEN, find yourself some patients?

I don't know, seems to me that they should assign patients to you before your product is even ready for testing, and to this point it is not looking like HC will be providing you with any of those details. So like alot of you already said, build up a business, get the $$$$, set it up, then your on your own for distributing? I think it takes too much waiting for it to be lucrative or worth all this time and effort.

I had the building already, its familly owned and ready for use, and brand new as well, 4,000sq, +2000sqft of offices. But... I don't see this beeing viable. Better off going rogue and make a huge gorrilla grow op and have less risk of falling flat on your face if you ask me.

I am now part of the Non believing crowd of this MMPR program. After going through everything. Wish I didn't read all the documentation and filled out all these forms, notifications and etc before getting to these conclusions.

I found a guy out in BC that will do it for 25. Plus $500 monthly going forward. It seems like he does all the leg work you just upload all of your grow room metrics to him.

I am doing the same thing but am having issues with the qualified quality control, do we have to hire this person full time or can we just hire consultant to do the testing? Also curious has to how to get clients. will the gov website send you people. would hate to spend all this money on start up and then not have many patients specially if you have to hire a quality control person full time.i am really interested in seeing how you LP is going, would love to discuss with you. please email me, any help would be great and if i can offer any help to you. the MMPR is kida vauge on what kind of building you need as well. to make a half decent living you can do it in a small place, as long as you have the security measure in place.

Hey Colin,

Something you should consider, Quality Assurance(QC) and Quality Assurance(QA) although sound similar are actually two different things. QC you can definitely outsource. It is the testing that will be done on your final product to test for heavy metals, microbial, canabanoids and other medicinal properties of your product. I have provided a list of qualified labs that I got from Health Canada. These test ain't cheap you can estimate $5000 a pop.

QA on the other hand are your way of proving to the government that you can meet minimum operation standards. They describe everything form sanitation of the building, to description of your growing process, packaging, labelling, and storage of the final product. The way I see it you can either hire a qualified person or outsource the initial paperwork and preform the QA yourself.

I emailed MMPR last night and they replied within 8 hours, surprised they were that quick. I asked if you could grow on your property if you had a shop out back as long as it was up to the security they insist on. i see that it says you can't grow in a private dwelling but if you don't live in the building then it is not a private dwelling but all the did was send a link sending me to this[h=2]Physical Security Measures[/h] Production sites need to be located indoors, and not in a private dwelling.

so if i own property out in country that has house on it, would i be able to turn this into a grow op?

I am pretty sure many are applying with an agricultural property that has a house on it. As long as no growing occurs within the dwelling, my interpretation is that it would be acceptable. A proper building or greenhouse would be suitable, as long as all the security measures are in place. Have I got this right? Does anyone have a different idea on this?

Just wondering if either of you are still in the review stage or have you been contacted yet for an inspection? How long has your review stage lasted? Feel free to pm me if you don't feel like sharing. Anyone else in the review stage or beyond? Also, you are doing a good job answering the questions of people who should have just read this thread from the start. Most recently, I agree with you MarijeJane regarding property and dwellings. And to stir this thread's pot even more, I want to again ask Maximum for his update and to tell him that he is sorely missed on this thread.

That's also my understanding from reading it. The key is that the dwelling must not be physically connected or attached to the grow facility. Otherwise it would be difficult for HC or the RCMP to monitor without invading people's privacy in their own homes in the event they require an audit for the security tapes recording.

Our application number is in the 30's and we have not yet been contacted for inspection. Hoping that will happen very soon. I also agree with Kootenaygirl, where is Maximum? Has anyone PM'd him?

Hey GreenEra, what role do you see yourself playing in the MMPR? Investor? Grower? Both? Landowner? We have not sought funding yet. We have decided that getting our license first would be better than getting turned down because MMPR understanding is low and new. This would be the only way for a bank or potential investor to take us seriously, in our opinion. Thanks for the info MarijeJane. Guess we are in for a long wait...... We will keep you all posted and wish you would too. Anybody else out there that has submitted an application? What happened to cdnsimon, bigbudha, quebed? Come on guys, out of 150 applications submitted to date, as a collective we could all learn so much about HC and their process. Do you think every application gets moved to the review stage or do they get weeded out and denied before then?

As they always say, only the crazy's don't change their minds. I think your on the right track Kootenay girl, same thing goes for me. I am finalizing my application because I already put so much time into it, it would be stupid not to give it a try and see if our luck strikes. Then like you mentionned, financing is possible. A friend from a bank here, told me he heard some financing went out for the same kind of industry not to long ago. So financing comes after approval for sure.


I was wondering, at the moment, for patients, is there a coverage as to the cost of buying this medication covered in our federal plan? Or are patients left to absorb 100% of the price of their medication?

Patients pick up the entire tab, but....you can right it off on taxes apparently if you buy from an LP.

Our Quality Assurance Pre-Licensing Report was comprised of less than 5% of the total application pages. Basically, we repeated back to them, showing how we were in compliance with each and every rule that they made in Division 4, point by point, with respect to buildings, equipment, and the sanitation program used. The real work was in creating the Standard Operating Procedures from scratch. These SOP's were not sent to HC but were referred to in the Pre-License Report. HC has not requested a copy of them to date. You are working for a company and you are in on the application process? That must make you the lawyer or the grower. As a grower I hope your not working for cheap. I know the lawyer isn't. Have you got a building yet or do you need to build still. In or out of the lower mainland? Best of luck and it's time to get a share and partner up if your the grower, you will be doing most of the work.

What about if you turn the dwelling into an operation? , wouldn't be living there, I think it might be better to rent to start.
this is the way i read it but i can't get a straight answer form HC. i have some friends that own property on a reserve and are interested in renting me their place cheap, Do you know if there would be complications with having an operation there?

Hey Kootenaygirl,
My girlfriend and I will be starting a small start up as growers. we're still at an infant stage but we're about to put a conditional offer on a site (slightly over 2000 sq) we found east of GTA. Just like you said, HC's approval is critical in the process. That's why we will condition the offer on a government contract, along with your routine inspection and financing. The other hurdle major hurdle which some folks have raised is zoning. We contacted the planing department of the township and since this is a bit of a novelty for them, we were told that they will need to confirm with their legal department and the head planner for feasibility.
Not to mention the initial QA/SOP report which is costly (anywhere between $20k to $25k). As some have mentioned, it would be great to organise once we have a decent number of approved LP's under some sort of coop where everyone pitches in to bring tests cost down. That being said, this won't do any good for those who are currently applying as HC hasn't approved anyone else yet other PPS and its own CanniMed
