Boveda Blows!

I would never use a thread title like this without first speaking directly via telephone to the company, which I did yesterday. I have a 10-pack of their 8 gram 62's that I am 99% sure are either defective or mislabeled. They insist it is my hygrometer, which is working just fine. Initially buds were jarred after normal drying time, which for me in Winter is 4 days...about a week during Summer when indoor RH is higher. The following day, hygrometer read 78%!. I of course removed packet and began slow-drying with lid removed. I then tested my hygrometer, just in case...worked fine. I then placed a Boveda packet *all by itself in a 1 quart mason jar, within 30 minutes the RH went from 40 to 80%.

Boveda insisted they have seen hygrometers perform up to 25% off. Yet, I can pick up a bud and guess within 3% what it's RH is...that's how long I have been curing. I have now stabilized my jars at 63% using my own difficult method, which was why I decided to try the packets to begin with.

I could take pics all day long to demonstrate, if I toss another 62 into my 63 stable jar it will go up to 65 within an hour...I tried that as well already.

Boveda just doesn't want to admit they had a quality control issue.

:peace:

Fill a shot glass with salt and wet it with enough distilled water to wet it but not have any pooled on the top and put it in a sealed jar with hygrometer. That's a 70% rh standard that's easy to kake to test your hygrometer.

For what it's worth I got 4 of the large 62's and they keep things right at 62-64.

Also, I have a wireless temp/humidity guage w/four sensors, and also 4 cheap temp/hum gauges of a couple different makes. A few weeks ago I wanted to check/calibrate them if needed so put all 8 in the same room for a couple hours and shut the door. I was shocked that they all read within a point of each other on both temp & humidity.

If a hygrometer matches the current outdoor RH(which mine does), I think it's safe to assume the same hygrometer used indoors is not going to be 18% off. I'll buy 2 or 3 but not 18.

Boveda tried to sell me the hygrometer calibration kit as well, which I do not need.

I'm going to send the sales manager at Boveda a link for this thread...b/c I'm almost positive they mislabeled 62's as 84's.

I even offered to return them free of charge, bought them off Amazon...but even the outer ziplock packaging is from Boveda. It's their bar code.

I don't know brother. Bought mine on the Zon as well. They work great. And I got a pile of thermo/hygrometers and they are all dead on in agreement with each other.

You got something going on, gonna have to put on your Detective Hat.

Good luck.

Yeah those are a waste of money. A small thing of distilled water is really cheap and everyone has salt.
I've got to say I'm surprised. I've been using their products for many years for cigars and pot and have never had a bad experience.

Why are you looking to get support for a product from a company you didnt buy it from? Deal with the Amazon seller. Part of being a distributor for another company is that you also handle the customer support. I wouldn't help you either if you bought something from me through a 3rd party. THEY made the money on the markup, not me. My Boveda work fucking awesome and I'll never store/cure without them again.

Kindly re-read thread, the fact it was purchased from Amazon is irrelevant...still their product. I already spoke with BOVEDA directly.

Do you know how to cure w/o a product?...I'll guess no.

LOL, when I sold millions of dollars worth of construction materials...people bought from me not b/c I had the best product but b/c I provided the best service and they liked me.

As a grower, I can tell a customer to get fucked...and they still buy b/c my product blows away the competition.

And here you are, telling me I'm an asshole b/c I state Boveda mislabeled a product.

I'll bet you work for someone else.

Come on guys, we all grow, were all criminals to some degree, if we were all cell mates, we could get along. its just a damn tool. Chill out, don't get all pissed off with each other.

Maybe the product is shit, maybe not. Love/respect. It's the only way humans win, in the end. :)

I've been using them for some time now and my buds after 2 months are still at 60 to 62% rh, seems to me you got ripped off somehow, and I'd say next time buy from boveda not a third party.

Well I suppose all of us that have had success with Boveda 62's are wrong. Your bad experience supercedes our collective positive experiences. Thank you for pointing out the error of our ways.

Either you jarred weed that was way too moist for the Boveda to pull down OR your hygrometer is wrong.

RU kidding me?, do you think someone would try and duplicate packs that cost about a dollar from Boveda?.

And then use Amazon to distribute?.

Don't think so.

The Godamn packs are mislabeled...what it so hard for some of you people out here to accept?.

Not a big deal, manufacturers are all known to make a mistake or 2.

Jesus, read the thread.

Just wanted to add Boveda Email response sent 2 hours ago.

I'll call Charlie tomorrow, and now I'm saving these packs to return directly.

Hey $$$$,

Thanks for the link, but since I could hear everything Lauren was saying, there wasn't anything she was wrong about.

I'll only add the following: There's a 0% chance of Boveda adding moisture beyond the RH on the pack. We distribute our products in industries and for products where precision is critical. We're the only ones in the world that can do precision moisture control and the stakes are very high in those industries. "Quality control" problems don't happen.

As Lauren said, a hygrometer isn't "working" unless it's calibrated. Since we make the only 100% reliable hygrometer calibration kit in the world, recognized as such in the museum, science and meteorological industries, the only way to be sure a hygrometer is "working" is calibrating it with our kit. Or our 62 % for that matter.

So the 1% of you that was unsure whether the Boveda was mislabeled (impossible) or defective (also impossible) is the correct part.

If the challenge you're having is that you don't feel the Boveda are working fast enough to remove moisture from the plant, you need to either give it more time or use more relative to the amount of material and size of the container.

The reason Boveda is explosively growing in MM is precisely because it does work so well, especially for curing. A good rule of thumb is to use the largest Boveda that will fit in any given container, and multiple 60g's for 5 gallon buckets. It sounds to me like what you're trying is basically like warming your house (big container) by lighting a match (little fire).

Give all the 8g's a shot in there, or just use a 60g and I think your results will be faster and more to your liking. If you have more detailed questions on curing, I've copied our CA distributor, who's very familiar with some easy tips on getting it right simply and easily.

We appreciate your business, let me know when I can be more help.

No I called you an asshole because you're an asshole :) I told you to deal with who sold it to you and in turn you tell me I must not know how to cure a plant. Lol.

Until Boveda proves me wrong, bridle thy tongue.

B/C if I'm wrong I'm the first to eat threads here.

Have a good night.
