Are you saying you want to build the ballasts themselves from components like putting all the diodes and transformers on the circuit boards? Or are you saying you want to get the ballasts, end caps, reflectors, and wire and assemble the fixture yourself?

Look into water curing. Some claim that it renders moldy buds smokable. I've done it on good weed just to try and it tastes like shit, but the high seemed the same as air dried bud. Don't know if it truly makes moldy bud 100% safe, but worth a few minutes reading.

I don't know if there is an official term, but the mutation was stabilized in a strain called 'ducksfoot' a few years back and the seeds were commercially available. It was marketed for outdoor discreet grows, but reportedly weak. I have never seen the mutation in person tho.

12/12 from seed is just fine. the plant will mature no faster, but instead of seeing preflowers first, you'll just see it start flowering. If overall size is an issue, 12/12 from seed can save you from the few extra days of vegetative growth that it would take you to identify the preflowers.
