Ice Cold water showers (yeah add the dish soap if you like, but I would rinse with plain water afterwards).... and garlic spray (3 times a week for up to 3 weeks after you THINK they are gone). Cheap and extremely effective (particularly on outdoor plants)

your soil looks good and well mixed. I like your plant spacing as well. yes a full half gallon at watering to keep the soil alive and thriving as well as promote your roots to grow further. I would say your pots are twice the size you need. I would give them a good 3 weeks before switching...
