What size of COB is ideal for cost per watt?

I ordered a bridgelux EB setup and that's all fine and well. However, I'd like to get some COBs eventually as they have their own unique uses. The issue I have is that I can't seem to find a happy balance between the number of cobs I have and the heat sinking where I end up with a decent $/watt...

Ideal thermal interface for EB strips?

None of the silver pastes on digikey had an expiry either

Ideal thermal interface for EB strips?

That's a good point. I get all horny to make this thing efficient and last forever, but the technology will be old and cheap before it's halfway through its' lifetime. Hence why I'm aiming for dirt cheap diy.

Hazardous running 12 EB strips in series? ~240v

I would buy two drivers, but for this year it's gonna be plain Jane LEDs with one power supply and at 3500k, until the harvests come in and I stop going broke buying street grass. Also, cheap is important because before these lights even come close to dieing, there will likely be 250 lm/W...

Ideal thermal interface for EB strips?

Bought a 10 pack of Gennel silver grease, looked like good thermal conductivity and non corrosive and doesn't have a shelf life like most others.

These things fail to an open circuit right?

Ideal thermal interface for EB strips?

laying down thermal tape is just so lazy and tempting. I know thermal paste is like 5x better in terms of thermal conductivity, but we're talking about a system most people dont even bother to heat sink. So I'm just counting screws, Thank you, it was very helpful.

Hazardous running 12 EB strips in series? ~240v

OK, so that pretty much settles it then in my mind. 12 eb 560mm in series with an hlg-240h-c1050. Pretty much doing exactly what you did, aluminum flashing and 1a strips in series. If i need to, I'll cut the light into two independent kits with one power supply and a long wire between them.

Hazardous running 12 EB strips in series? ~240v

Please elaborate. I am definitely struggling, I avoided electric circuits until I'm 30, but I'm not a moron and I'd like to learn. Just riddle me this: HLG-240H-C1050 running 12 EB Gen2 in series. Concerns? Am I an idiot and people are more concerned about the AC side pulling high amperage? I...

Hazardous running 12 EB strips in series? ~240v

So, with this system if you're you must be outputting 300V with fifteen 20v strips in series? Any issues/precautions? I could use an answer, I'm hovering over the BUY button on digikey.

Ideal thermal interface for EB strips?

I read another thread where someone had issues when he used the optics holes to mount the chip as you've done. The notches are the only mounting points supposedly. Perhaps I I'll just put a line of screws, slide the edge without notches underneath of them and pinch them down, then put screws in...

Ideal thermal interface for EB strips?

No, but seeing as the diodes are close together in the middle, perhaps a delicately placed line down the middle after i placed two thin lines of thermal tape on either edge would work. Most important would be making sure there's even contact as the grease will be compressible and the tape not as...

Hazardous running 12 EB strips in series? ~240v

Right? I also feel like working with a 240v system is the boogie man. What are the real risks and where? I'm asking because one of your old posts says you don't like working above 200v. I'd be wiring with household 220 solid core. My father's a mechanical engineer and seems to think it's no...

Ideal thermal interface for EB strips?

Amazon's 20mm wide thermal tape says: "Thermal double-sided tape has a thermal conductivity of only 1.5 W/mk, Can't provide good cooling results," Sooooooo, suggestions? I'm tempted to try using a nice 6W/mK ceramic paste directly under the diodes and 2-sided thermal tape in between.

Hazardous running 12 EB strips in series? ~240v

Better to use an HLG-240H-C2100 and run two 120V 6-strip parallel circuits? Thermal runaway is something that irks me greatly. I'm not going to be constantly IR gunning my strips after a certain point, most likely will become complacent, and I don't wanna find out one circuit has been cooking...

Hazardous running 12 EB strips in series? ~240v

Hi, Where, if any, do I add insulation in this circuit? or where might I run into issues? I'm reading scant bits of information here and there saying people are wary of going to high voltage and tend to split their power supplies up. It's wayyyyyyyyyyyy cheaper to go with one 240W power supply...

Is it possible to over cool COBs? Liquid cooling

I have two 240w drivers running 4 cobs each at 60w for a total system of 480w. Vero 29D is 30$CAD. Adding 8 more to the 8 I already have is adding 240$ more to my system. I'm trying to be economical, not reach for the utmost efficiency without any thought about the cost. Even if we're taking...

Is it possible to over cool COBs? Liquid cooling

Two parallel strings would be another 240$, not looking to spend 700$ on only 480w of light. Even if it is 10% more lumens per watt than the strips, which would make it kind of like 520w equivalent to the strips, it still isn't very economical compared to strips at 435$/480w. What would be the...
