Well of course t12 don't compare, a 2bulb fixture is 10dollars. For the price though they compare very well. Also was cooling ever mentioned? A HID 24" up or on with a cooltube and fan 10" up would give far different results.

PVC piping would be the simplistic way. Very easy to assemble/disassemble and could easily support the film. Supporting an HID would need some thick PVC though if that is your lighting.

They help to where they are at least worth making IMO. Just make a square around the box using some cheap OSB or plywood, and line that (or cover) with egg-crate foam. Theres also Dyno-Mat material which is less flamable and may work better but cost much more.

I agree, and think of that every time I come here and am reminded its just avg growing teks. Stuff like electrostimulating the roots I would consider Advanced, but I don't know if there is enough of those new ideas to support an entire section.

Very interested in if this actually works. Pretty crazy a root can get enough energy in complete darkness to grow a plant but I figure at worse I waist 1sq/f of my house and a couple gallons of soil so I'll be doing this for sure once my current grow finishes.

People top a plant to increase the number of main stems, what your talking about would simply be trimming. Though it can still increase foliage count.
