Fresh air is essential, plants consume CO2 which must be replaced. If your fan is pushing air out, then it must be coming in from somewhere, unless you've created a vacuum. That would be REALLY bad for your plants. Get fresh air.

The plants grow out the bottom and then turn upwards so the sun is still on the top of the leaves.

If it's a 12 volt fan it will work with a 12v or less adapter. There are cheaper, easier ways of doing a fan though.

People have successfully grown weed in TT planters. Taking care of them high up in trees would be tough but it could be a good hiding place. The plastic is supposed to be UV resistant. It's not, I had three of them fall apart after one summer. You might be changing them over every year.
