I found using molasses turns the soil hard and compact. I use a little long pronged fork to loosen the soil up sometimes after watering and it keeps the soil from compacting too much and I think it allows more air to get in the soil.

I'm not big on referbished stuff but I never hesitate to buy off Ebay if it's something I want. Never had a problem yet! It shows the seller is a power seller and has good history so I wouldn't hesitate if I wanted that set up.

Just grow them out now, by cutting them off it won't help your harvest at all now. Save the seeds for future grows or sell them to someone else who wants to grow. You could also just spread them over the neighborhood and make it greener!

How long ago did you take the cuttings? They do look fine for cuttings and will take time to develop the roots before they start growing again. You could mist the inside of the container to keep the leaves greener however too much and it slows down the growth of the roots.
