from what I've seen, most of the ballasts run off a range, they will run between 9 and 32 volts, taking up only 3.3amps in the process. A computer powersupply can supply 12volts with plenty of amperage to go around. cooling would be easy, a homemade cooltube if nothing else.

how are you getting fresh air to the plants and hot air from the lights out? I am getting some smell in the room when lights come on, other than that not too noticeable.

Nice man looks like your on your way to a good grow. If you hadn't already discovered you can grow on low light I was gunna say look @ my grow in sig, only 2 23w CFL's and my plant (5.5 weeks into flowering) is lookin sexy =D. With 8 you should be able to make some yummies haha.
