You're definitely going to take a loss on potency, smell, and flavor. Harvesting when most of the trichomes are still clear and synthesizing the THCA will result in a very weak head high, as there is little THCA and even less CBD & CBN. You'll most likely end up with some buds made for bongs...

You can definitely use CFL's to supplement any lighting set up, awesome for side lighting and hitting those hard to reach areas beneath the canopy. CFL's properly used can be good for vegging as well as flowering, though a change up in the spectrum should be implemented.

Careful when it comes to rehydrating your buds!! Overdoing it will give them a loss in taste and smell, a loss in density, and greatly increases chances of mold! I used the moist paper towel method coming back from Denver, lost an entire jar of Hashplant, and my Grape Ape smelled like nothing :'(

At night, the plant will move reserve starches into its root system. At sunrise, or when the lights come on, it will begin drawing those starches back up into the rest of the plant. Keeping the lights off for any amount of time longer than the 12 will not (or should not, IMO) increase this...

Keeping it in the dark any longer than the normal 12 hours will not prompt it to push any more reserves into the root system. Simply cutting prior to the lights coming on when they normally would, or before sunrise for outdoors, will help as much as it can.
