Whatever you také off promotes growth elsewhere. I trim out all inner branches and fans that aren't getting light and fans that block light from budding sites. Never trim off more than 25% of the plant of you'll stunt the growth. I'll fetch a pic of my stalking technique.

UV would be terrible for an organic grow, it would kill all the beneficial micro organisims, for your situation, I'd say it's overkill.
