I've been noticing something that resembles flower pedals rolled up into a large ball. They seem to grow from the final inernodes. I've never seen them in any pics on RIU and I'm wondering if anyone knows what they are called?

THose are preflower. If you see those white hairs, I'd go ahead and start the 12/12. Might be a hermes with both sexes growing on one plant. In that case, you will spend a lot of time picking balls off. Don't worry about picking the preflowers, they just show you their sex.
