Not a damn thing. No cooling necessary. The res stays right around 68 degrees with the ambient air temp in the tent reaching a max of 80 degrees. With no pump to warm the water like with an aero or bubbleponics setup, its obvious the cause of the res being too warm is the environment...

Yeah, that could work too. It just makes more sense (to me anyway) to clear up growing space and exhaust the hottest air out of the cab by having the filter up high.

White or silver doesn't really matter...they both reflect light very well. I'd shoot for a bit lower temps like stringcheesehead mentioned. You want to keep it under 85 degrees for optimal growth.

I usually go by the hairs and color. You can usually tell when the bud is done just by looking at it. I do keep a pocket microscope on-hand, though just to double check.

YES! You must wash hydroton before using it. Otherwise you get a lot of sediment buildup and it could potentially mess with pH levels. I just stick mine in an old spaghetti strainer and run it under the sink until there is no color to the water draining out.
