you simply dont want to use hard water at all, it contains alot of things not so beneficial to plants. and pH is always wack on Alkaline side. mine comes out 8.7pH. my cat wont even drink it. i tried using it on plants and it died very quickly. i suggest getting a filter for hard water.

T5's are amazing for veg. you need to keep them very close though for tight internodal spacing. look for around 6000K-7000K spectrum bulbs.
